Job Description

MGM Resorts International is a globally recognized leader in the hospitality and entertainment industry, known for its dynamic and innovative approach to providing unforgettable guest experiences. Located in Detroit, Michigan, MGM Resorts encompasses a broad array of luxury hotels, world-class restaurants, and vibrant entertainment venues, each designed to welcome guests into a world of excitement, diversity, and top-notch service. The company prides itself on fostering a workforce of enthusiastic, dedicated professionals who thrive in a team-oriented environment and are passionate about delivering exceptional hospitality. With a commitment to diversity and inclusion, MGM Resorts offers a workplace that reflects the communities it serves, making it an appealing destination for those looking to build a meaningful career in an engaging sector.

The role of Sous Chef at TAP, one of MGM Resorts’ popular restaurants, presents an exciting opportunity for culinary professionals eager to develop and elevate their cooking careers within a lively, fast-paced kitchen. TAP specializes in serving comfort food and pub classics like the beloved TAP Classic Burger, savory wings, and Detroit House Nachos, all enjoyed by guests surrounded by more than 40 high-definition flat-screen televisions showing their favorite sports games. As a Sous Chef at TAP, you will be instrumental in maintaining the restaurant’s food quality and consistency, collaborating closely with the Executive Chef and kitchen staff to ensure operational excellence. This role requires multitasking and decision-making skills that balance product quality with the restaurant's business objectives. You will oversee proper inventory ordering, engage with guests to enhance their dining experience, and work in tandem with the front-of-house team to ensure seamless service. Additionally, you will manage staff scheduling, payroll, training, and disciplinary actions, contributing to a supportive and efficient work environment. The position also involves educating and mentoring kitchen team members across various roles, from Master cooks to helpers, helping build a cohesive and skilled culinary team.

This is a full-time position that offers a chance to work in one of Detroit's most exciting entertainment and dining environments, where every day brings new challenges and rewards. The ideal candidate will possess a culinary associate’s degree or equivalent experience, alongside at least two years of relevant expertise in food preparation and kitchen management. Flexibility is key, as the role requires working varied shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. The successful Sous Chef will have the opportunity to contribute creatively by developing new recipes and specials, control food and labor costs, and set goals that align with the restaurant’s profitability and guest satisfaction.

MGM Resorts is renowned not just for its commitment to guest satisfaction but also for supporting its employees through a comprehensive benefits package. Eligible employees enjoy health and income protection benefits, access to wellness programs, free meals during shifts, employee fitness centers, and various employee discounts across MGM's hospitality and entertainment offerings. There are also career advancement programs and community engagement opportunities, providing a fulfilling and supportive work environment. If you are passionate about combining culinary craftsmanship with teamwork and leadership in an exciting setting, the Sous Chef role at TAP is a unique chance to join a company that truly values its people, creativity, and the art of hospitality.
