Job Description

MAKfam is a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant led by Chef Kenneth Wan, a highly acclaimed chef recognized as a 2024 James Beard Emerging Chef Semi-Finalist and a 2025, 2026 Best Chef Mountain Semi-Finalist. This prestigious culinary establishment is a chef-driven, high-volume kitchen that prides itself on tradition, creativity, and exceptional craftsmanship. Situated within the competitive and vibrant culinary scene, MAKfam stands out not only for its outstanding dishes and Michelin recognition but also for fostering a unique kitchen culture that values respect, collaboration, and personal growth. The team at MAKfam is intentionally built around a community that supports high standards while also encouraging growth and development in an inspiring and positive environment.

MAKfam is currently seeking a dynamic and passionate leader to fill a critical leadership role as Sous Chef. This position is far from a traditional Sous Chef role; instead, it is a pivotal leadership opportunity situated at a significant growth stage for the restaurant. The ideal candidate will not only be adept at kitchen execution but will also be instrumental in shaping the team, contributing to evolving kitchen systems, and growing as a more comprehensive leader. Working directly with the Chef de Cuisine and the ownership team, the Sous Chef candidate will have direct visibility into the business with a real opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

This role offers the rare chance to be mentored by a James Beard-recognized chef and be a vital part of a Michelin-recognized kitchen at a time when the restaurant is expanding its reach and refining its operations. Responsibilities include hands-on involvement in menu development, systems enhancement, and team building, ensuring that the kitchen runs efficiently and to a high standard. The culture at MAKfam emphasizes respect, accountability, and continuous growth, making it a fertile environment for an individual who wants to contribute to something bigger than themselves while developing their leadership skills. The candidate will join a collaborative team atmosphere that prioritizes effective communication, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence.

In addition to managing the kitchen floor during service, this position entails mentoring kitchen staff, maintaining quality control, overseeing kitchen organization, inventory management, food cost control, and ensuring compliance with all health and safety standards. The Sous Chef will be expected to lead shifts independently, maintaining composure and a positive attitude in a high-pressure environment. The role requires a hands-on leader who embraces accountability, possesses strong communication skills, and is passionate about fostering a positive workplace culture committed to growth and respect.

Overall, MAKfam offers an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious kitchen leader who wants to be part of a burgeoning culinary enterprise recognized for its innovation and excellence. The salary range for this role is $60,000 to $65,000 based on experience, with additional quarterly bonuses tied to performance. This is a full-time position that includes comprehensive benefits and an opportunity to grow professionally within the organization. If you are motivated by a high-standard culinary environment that values leadership, collaboration, and personal growth, MAKfam is eager to meet you and explore how you can contribute to the future success of this acclaimed restaurant.
