Job Description
The Lead Cook at Aramark is a pivotal role within the food services team, responsible for preparing and cooking food according to standardized recipes and production guidelines while maintaining strict adherence to food safety and sanitation procedures. This role entails hands-on involvement in efficiently operating kitchen equipment such as grills, fryers, ovens, broilers, slicers, and mixers. The Lead Cook is also expected to handle food utensils, including knives, with care and precision to ensure the highest level of quality and safety in food preparation. This position may include supervisory duties, where the Lead Cook schedules, assigns, and oversees daily work activities of kitchen staff, guiding and training them in cooking methods, food safety, and sanitation standards. The Lead Cook ensures workstations are properly set up and ingredients are prepped accurately by measuring, weighing, mixing, chopping, trimming, and peeling food items. Additionally, the Lead Cook is responsible for the presentation of food by arranging, garnishing, and portioning according to established guidelines. Maintaining cleanliness, sanitization, and organization in work areas and equipment is also critical. The role demands excellent communication skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities under limited supervision. Physical requirements include lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and extended periods of walking or standing. The position also may involve wearing uniforms and utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE). Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- previous supervisor experience in a related role preferred
- experience as a cook or related role required
- ability to work independently with limited supervision required
- food safety certification required
- basic math and counting skills
- effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- physical ability to lift, bend, push, pull, and stand for extended periods
- willingness to wear uniforms and use personal protective equipment (PPE)

- Recent experience as a cook or in food preparation
- knowledge of food safety regulations and sanitation procedures
- ability to operate standard kitchen equipment including grills, fryers, ovens, broilers, slicers, mixers
- basic understanding of various cooking methods such as baking, roasting, broiling, steaming
- proven leadership skills and ability to supervise staff
- strong organizational skills
- excellent customer service orientation
- positive attitude and effective communication skills
Job Duties
- Schedules and assigns daily work activities to staff and supervises the completion of tasks
- trains and guides staff on job duties, standard food safety and sanitation procedures, cooking methods, etc
- cooks and prepares food following production guidelines and standardized recipes
- sets up workstation with all needed ingredients and equipment
- prepares ingredients by measuring, weighing, mixing, chopping, trimming, and peeling food items
- safely uses all food utensils including knives
- operates equipment such as ovens, stoves, slicers, mixers, etc
- bakes, roasts, broils, steams, and uses a variety of cooking methods on meats, vegetables, and other foods
- arranges, garnishes, and portions food following established guidelines
- properly stores food by following food safety policies and procedures
- cleans and sanitizes work areas, equipment, and utensils
- maintains excellent customer service with a positive attitude towards guests, customers, clients, co-workers, etc
- follows Aramark safety policies and procedures including food safety and sanitation
- ensures security of company assets
- produces and maintains work schedules and may prepare production records
