We are currently hiring for the position of Full-Time Hourly Sous Chef or Assistant Kitchen Manager at P.F. Chang's. This role is critical to the successful operation of our culinary team within a high-volume, fast-paced kitchen environment. The sous chef assists in managing all daily culinary and food service operations, ensuring the highest operating standards while delivering memorable culinary experiences. You will lead and mentor a vibrant culinary team, supporting food preparation and execution of menu items, while fostering a fun, family-style work environment. The sous chef plays an integral part in scheduling, interviewing, hiring, and providing ongoing feedback and recognition to team members. Additionally, you will maintain stringent product quality standards by performing regular line checks and actively participate in prep and line cooking when necessary to meet timely execution demands.

The role demands strict adherence to safety and sanitation guidelines, active involvement in cost control measures, and inventory management under the direction of the executive chef. Candidates should have a minimum of two years of prior culinary or restaurant experience, with exposure to managing inventory, cost of goods, and other financial controls. Experience in mentoring, training, and motivating hourly team members is crucial to support our culture of learning and growth. Physically, this role requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, balance, and handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds during shifts in a kitchen environment characterized by warm to very warm temperatures. P.F. Chang's offers competitive pay ranging from $56,513.60 to $76,505.00 annually based on experience, with an hourly rate of $19.76 to $26.75. This is a non-exempt position assuming 50 hours per week of employment.

Job Requirements

  • Two plus years of prior culinary or restaurant experience
  • Exposure to managing inventory, cost of goods and overall control of financials
  • Experience working in a hands-on, fast paced, high volume environment
  • Experience mentoring and training hourly team members
  • Must be able to stand and walk for periods of eight to ten hours in length each shift
  • Must be able to reach, bend, balance and transport various objects weighing up to 30 lbs repeatedly during a shift
  • At times it might be necessary to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Must be able to operate kitchen equipment including a wok, mixer, slicer, and buffalo chopper, as well as have the ability to use knives appropriately and maintain their integrity
  • Must be able to work around various levels of temperature, including warm to very warm temperatures in the kitchen

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of prior culinary or restaurant experience
  • Experience mentoring and training hourly team members
  • Exposure to managing inventory, cost of goods, and overall control of financials
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods
  • Ability to reach, bend, balance, and transport various objects weighing up to 30 pounds repeatedly during a shift
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds if necessary
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment including wok, mixer, slicer, and buffalo chopper
  • Ability to use knives appropriately and maintain their integrity
  • Capacity to work in warm to very warm kitchen environments
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
  • Experience in casual or upscale dining preferred
  • Experience working in a restaurant chain or franchise preferred

Job Duties

  • Lead a high volume, scratch kitchen culinary team with food prep and execution of menu items, procedures, and recipes, providing clear direction throughout the shift
  • Ensure guest satisfaction through memorable culinary experiences
  • Develop, mentor, and inspire your culinary team to continue to learn and teach
  • Promote a fun and positive family-style work environment
  • Assist with scheduling, interviewing, and hiring
  • Provide feedback to staff and recognition of staff
  • Maintain product quality standards by performing regular line checks
  • Engage in prep and line cooking activities as needed during the shift to ensure timely execution
  • Follow and execute all state safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Contribute to building sales and maximize financial success for the restaurant
  • Assist with cost control and food inventories as directed by the Executive Chef
