Job Description

Currently, AVI Foodsystems is seeking a full-time Sous Chef to join their team at Goshen College. This role offers an exciting opportunity for an energetic and optimistic culinary professional to lead kitchen operations during the noon to 8 pm shift, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend work as needed. The Sous Chef will play a pivotal role in maintaining the high standards of food preparation and kitchen management that AVI Foodsystems is known for. The Sous Chef will be responsible for preparing meals to precise specifications in a timely manner while ensuring food quality, safety, and sanitation standards are met throughout the kitchen. They will efficiently manage kitchen inventory, maintain cleanliness and organization, and oversee kitchen staff to uphold company policies and procedures. Leadership and communication skills are essential, as the Sous Chef will support and coordinate with other culinary team members and the Executive Chef. This role also includes responsibilities such as opening and closing the kitchen and ensuring proper food temperature control and storage.

Job Requirements
- Culinary degree preferred
- Two or more years of experience in a culinary lead role
- Experience in a high volume catering environment preferred
- Ability to build relationships by actively listening and responding to the clients needs
- Adaptable to changing business conditions
- Comfortable dealing with fast-paced environments

Job Duties
- Prepare meals and food to meet specifications in a timely manner
- Properly measure kitchen ingredients and food portions
- Ensure kitchen staff adhere to set standards, procedures, rules and sanitation requirements
- Use kitchen knives and equipment such as grills, ovens, steamers and warmers in food preparation
- Manage the kitchen inventory and ensure supplies are fresh and of high quality
- Ensure proper food temperatures when cooking and proper storage afterward
- Keep the workstation and kitchen equipment clean, organized and sanitized
- Take charge of kitchen opening, closing and other duties as directed by the Executive Chef
