Job Description

Morrison Healthcare, a reputable subsidiary of Compass Group, is dedicated to providing exceptional culinary and nutritional services within healthcare settings across the United States. With over 70 years of experience, Morrison Healthcare supports leading health systems nationwide by delivering high-quality meals that meet strict nutritional standards and enhance patient care. Employing a team of more than 31,000 professionals, including registered dietitians and executive chefs, Morrison Healthcare fosters a culture of collaboration, excellence, and purpose-driven work. The company values caring for people, promoting inclusion, and creating meaningful moments that make a difference in the communities it serves.

The role of Sous Chef at Morrison Healthcare is a vital position located at Texas Children's Hospital North Austin, where culinary expertise directly contributes to patient well-being and satisfaction. This position offers both full-time and part-time opportunities with schedules that include Monday through Friday hours with varying shifts and weekend work. Pay rates range from $24.00 to $28.00 per hour, reflecting the importance of the skills and experience required.

As a Sous Chef, the successful candidate will assist the Executive Chef in preparing and cooking meals, ensuring that all food is prepared according to approved recipes and production standards. The role includes overseeing and coordinating the activities of cooks and other food-service associates, maintaining the highest standards of food safety, quality, and presentation. This position also assumes leadership responsibilities in the absence of the Executive Chef, guaranteeing that the kitchen operates smoothly and efficiently.

The ideal candidate must have at least two years of prior cooking experience in a healthcare setting, emphasizing the need for familiarity with healthcare dietary requirements and safety protocols. The Sous Chef will be responsible for supervising hourly associates, including conducting interviews, scheduling, payroll, training, and managing performance through reviews and necessary disciplinary actions. Attention to detail in food storage, sanitation, and workstation cleanliness is paramount to meet corporate, state, and federal regulations.

In addition to technical culinary skills, this role requires excellent communication and customer service abilities to handle customer interactions and resolve complaints respectfully and professionally. The Sous Chef will also monitor inventory and product usage, track production and waste, and coordinate with supervisors regarding supply needs. This dynamic role combines culinary craftsmanship with leadership and operational management to maintain the highest standards within a healthcare food service environment.

Joining Morrison Healthcare means being part of a collaborative team committed to making a positive impact on patients, caregivers, and communities. The company offers numerous benefits to both full-time and part-time employees, supporting their health, well-being, and financial security. Morrison Healthcare is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity and inclusion, providing a supportive workplace where all employees can thrive and grow their careers.
