Job Description

Flik Independent School Dining (FISD) is a pioneering foodservice company specializing in private and independent school dining experiences. With over forty years of expertise, FISD operates across 300 communities, committed to transforming school foodservice into an exceptional experience. The company emphasizes sourcing fresh, locally grown ingredients to support sustainable agricultural practices that benefit both the environment and local economies. Beyond serving delicious, healthy meals, FISD is dedicated to advancing nutrition education programs that empower students to make wise dietary choices, fostering a culture of health and wellness in the school community. Their motto, "nourishing the whole person, creating community," reflects the core philosophy of delivering outstanding food paired with innovative educational outreach to encourage lifelong healthy habits. As part of the Compass Group family, FISD offers a dynamic and supportive workplace culture grounded in inclusion, diversity, and the drive to do what is right every time.

The role of Sous Chef at FISD's University School of Milwaukee location is a full-time opportunity that invites culinary professionals with at least three years of cooking experience to join a passionate and driven team. This position primarily operates on a day schedule, generally from 5:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., but with some flexibility in daily shifts. The role involves assisting the Executive Chef in preparing and cooking foods according to approved recipes and production schedules. The Sous Chef will also coordinate and supervise the activities of cooks and food-service associates, stepping into leadership responsibilities in the Executive Chef's absence. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring skillful management of food safety procedures, kitchen sanitation, inventory controls, and timely meal production to meet high-quality standards.

The pay range for this position is between $25.00 and $28.50 per hour, and the position includes desirable perks such as meal provisions, uniform and laundering services at select locations, and an internal employee referral bonus. The position emphasizes a collaborative and service-oriented approach, encouraging involvement in all facets of kitchen operations including staff training, scheduling, and customer engagement. FISD promotes a supportive working environment with comprehensive benefits tailored to both full-time and part-time associates, such as health insurance options, retirement plans, wellness programs, and various voluntary benefits. The company's commitment to equal opportunity employment ensures fair treatment and accommodations for all qualified candidates. This role is ideal for culinary professionals who are eager to contribute to a mission-driven organization focused on healthy eating, community impact, and continuous improvement in foodservice delivery.
