Job Description

Located at Rose State College in Midwest City, Oklahoma, Fresh Ideas is currently hiring for a full-time Sous Chef position. This role offers a competitive pay range of $18.00 to $25.00 per hour and demands flexibility in scheduling, including weekends and evenings, to accommodate the dynamic nature of food service operations. The Sous Chef will work closely with the Executive Chef and support the kitchen’s daily functions, ensuring high standards of food preparation, presentation, and service are maintained.

In this position, the Sous Chef plays a critical role in coordinating activities of cooks and food service associates, stepping in to manage the kitchen during the Executive Chef's absence. This role requires someone with at least five years of catering experience, including handling plated dinners, buffet setups, displays, and managing high-volume events with efficiency and professionalism. The Sous Chef is responsible for supervising, training, and evaluating kitchen staff, managing inventory, and maintaining strict adherence to food safety and sanitation protocols. Job Requirements

  • Five years of catering experience including plated, buffet, display, and high-volume functions
  • Ability to work full-time with flexible schedule including weekends and evenings
  • Willingness to adhere to food safety and sanitation standards
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills
  • Ability to perform duties under pressure
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Must be able to work in compliance with company policies and procedures

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Five years of catering experience including plated, buffet, display, and high-volume functions
  • Proven leadership skills and experience supervising food service associates
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic culinary skills with a focus on quality and presentation

Job Duties

  • Cooks and prepares food following approved recipes and production standards
  • Ensures all deadlines are met based on production orders
  • Supervises hourly food service associates including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, and recommending disciplinary actions
  • Stores food in designated areas following all corporate, state, and federal food safety and sanitation procedures
  • Ensures proper food handling, presentation, portion control, and maintenance of appropriate serving temperatures
  • Maintains sanitation of equipment, supplies, and utensils
  • Cleans workstations thoroughly before leaving area and keeps display equipment clean during meal service
  • Interacts with customers to resolve complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner
  • Demonstrates complete understanding of daily menu items and accurately explains them
  • Monitors inventory and deliveries of product and supplies, tracks production, consumption, and waste
  • Informs supervisor when supplies or product are low
  • Performs other duties as assigned
