The role of Sous Chef at Waialae Country Club represents an exciting opportunity for culinary professionals eager to grow their careers within a dynamic and respected establishment. This full-time position is based in the club's Kitchen department and reports directly to the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef. The Sous Chef will play a vital role in assisting with the leadership and management of daily kitchen operations, ensuring that every dish prepared meets the highest quality and presentation standards.

This role requires a proactive and skilled culinary leader who can train, direct, and inspire the kitchen team to deliver consistent and exceptional meals to the club's members, guests, and employees. The Sous Chef will help maintain food quality standards, oversee sanitation protocols, manage inventory levels, assist with ordering, and control costs effectively. The position also involves supervising the stewarding team, ensuring the kitchen and associated meal areas remain clean and organized.

Additional responsibilities include supporting the employee meal program by preparing meals according to established standards and managing all aspects of meal setup and breakdown. Flexibility is essential, as the Sous Chef must be prepared to cover various kitchen stations when needed and undertake other duties as assigned by senior kitchen leadership.

Job Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from 2-year college or technical school focusing on culinary education
  • 3-5 years of related experience with supervisory experience and/or training
  • TB clearance
  • Food handler certification
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

  • 3-5 years of related experience with supervisory experience and/or training
  • Excellent knife skills
  • Mastery of all cooking techniques
  • Familiarity of duties in all areas of the kitchen
  • Knowledge of culinary terminology
  • Ability to multitask

  • Food handler certification
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Job Duties

  • Assist the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef with overseeing daily kitchen operations
  • Lead, train, and direct the culinary team to prepare and cook meals for members, guests and employees
  • Maintain established food quality standards, consistency of menu items, and adhere to sanitation standards
  • Assist with inventory management, ordering and cost control
  • Assist with employee meal program by preparing meals in accordance with established standards, setting up and breaking down meals, and maintaining cleanliness of the employee meal area
  • Supervise stewarding team and assist with setting up and breaking down buffets and maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen
  • Cover stations in the kitchen as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef
