The full-time Sous Chef position at the University of Michigan Health West location in Wyoming, Michigan, is a vital role within Unidine's culinary team. Reporting directly to the Executive Chef, the Sous Chef helps prepare and cook a variety of menu items while overseeing the activities of cooks and other food-service associates. This position operates Monday through Friday with a rotating weekend schedule, ensuring smooth kitchen operations and supporting exceptional food quality and safety standards. With a fixed pay rate of $20.00 per hour, this role is designed for individuals with a passion for culinary excellence and leadership. The Sous Chef will play an integral role in maintaining food safety compliance, supervising staff, managing inventory, and ensuring that all food is prepared to meet Unidine’s high standards. The candidate must possess a valid ServSafe certification and previous culinary experience. Job Duties
- Cook and prepare food following approved recipes and production standards
- Ensure all deadlines are met based on production orders
- Supervise hourly food service associates including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, and performance reviews
- Store food in designated areas following corporate, state, and federal food safety and sanitation procedures
- Maintain proper food handling, presentation, portion control, and serving temperatures
- Maintain sanitation of equipment, supplies, and utensils
- Clean workstation thoroughly before leaving area
- Keep display equipment clean during meal service to comply with sanitation and safety requirements
- Interact with customers to resolve complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner
- Communicate relevant information to supervisor
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of daily menu items and explain them accurately to staff and customers
- Monitor inventory and deliveries of product and supplies
- Track product production, consumption, and waste
- Inform supervisor when supplies or product are low
- Perform other duties as assigned
