Job Description

Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford, located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is a part of the prestigious Ascension Health system, known for its commitment to providing high-quality health care services to the community. As a leading healthcare provider, Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford combines compassionate care with advanced medical technology to serve patients, families, and visitors in a healing environment. The hospital is dedicated to fostering an inclusive atmosphere where employees and patients alike feel valued and supported through a patient-first approach. Among its many departments, the culinary and food services team plays a vital role in enhancing patient experience by delivering nutritious and delicious meals tailored to meet the dietary needs of diverse patient populations.

The culinary services are managed by TouchPoint Support Services, a division of Compass Healthcare specializing in hospitality services within healthcare facilities across the United States. TouchPoint's mission centers around delivering exceptional hospitality to patients, families, and visitors through excellence in food services, facilities management, and patient support. The company prioritizes building belonging, promoting quality in service, and maintaining a supportive work environment that empowers employees to grow professionally while contributing to meaningful missions.

Within this context, Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford is seeking a dedicated and talented full-time Sous Chef to join its culinary team. The position operates on a full-time schedule with shifts typically from 5:00 am to 1:00 pm, including rotating weekends and holidays, with specific schedules provided during the interview process. The hourly pay range for this role is competitive, falling between $25.00 and $27.00 per hour, reflecting the level of responsibility and expertise required.

The Sous Chef will play a critical role in supporting the Executive Chef by preparing and cooking food according to approved recipes and production standards. This position entails coordinating the activities of cooks and other food-service associates to ensure efficient kitchen operations and exceptional food quality. The Sous Chef assumes responsibility for overseeing kitchen and food-service associates during the Executive Chef's absence, guaranteeing that all standards for food safety, presentation, and portion control are upheld.

This role requires strong leadership skills, as the Sous Chef will supervise hourly food service associates, manage scheduling, payroll, training, and counseling, and participate in performance reviews and disciplinary actions when necessary. Additionally, the Sous Chef is responsible for ensuring compliance with corporate, state, and federal food safety and sanitation guidelines, including maintaining cleanliness of equipment and workstations.

An important aspect of this role is customer interaction—resolving complaints in a professional and service-oriented manner and effectively communicating relevant information to supervisors. The Sous Chef must possess thorough knowledge of daily menu items and be able to explain these to both staff and customers to enhance the dining experience. Monitoring inventory, tracking product consumption and waste, and coordinating with suppliers on deliveries are also key responsibilities.

Working as a Sous Chef at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford provides the opportunity to make a direct impact on patient care through food services, contributing to the hospital’s overall mission of healing and wellness. Moreover, employees benefit from a supportive workplace culture at TouchPoint, which offers numerous benefits to both full-time and part-time associates, fostering a rewarding and balanced career. Full-time employees have access to medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, commuter benefits, employee assistance programs, and flexible spending accounts, among others, all designed to promote health, security, and well-being.

This position is ideal for candidates with prior experience in restaurant operations, hotel, corporate dining, or food and beverage operations who are passionate about culinary excellence and leadership in a healthcare setting. By joining Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford and TouchPoint Support Services, the Sous Chef will be part of a mission-driven team dedicated to improving the lives of the poor and vulnerable through compassionate, high-quality food services.
