The company is currently hiring a full-time Sous Chef for the Curtis Institute of Music located at 1726 Locust Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103. The Sous Chef at Bon Appetit will play a pivotal role in supporting the Executive Chef by preparing and cooking food according to approved recipes and production standards, ensuring that all food service operations run smoothly during shifts. Working primarily Thursday to Monday on the closing shift until 8:30 pm, this position demands strong leadership to coordinate activities among cooks and food-service associates, maintain kitchen cleanliness, and uphold strict food safety and sanitation standards. This role requires at least five years of cooking and supervisory experience, with sous chef experience preferred. The position offers a competitive pay range of $22.00 to $26.00 per hour, along with employee perks such as uniforms and staff meals.
Successful candidates will be responsible for supervising hourly associates, managing schedules, payroll, and training, as well as enforcing company policies through counseling and performance reviews. Job Requirements
- 5+ years of cook and supervisory experience required
- sous chef experience preferred
- ability to work full-time schedule including closing shifts Thursday through Monday
- must be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation
- ability to manage and supervise a kitchen team
- food handling certification a plus

Job Duties
- Cooks and prepares food following approved recipes and production standards
- ensures all deadlines are met based on production orders
- supervises hourly food service associates including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, participating in reviews and recommending disciplinary action
- stores food in designated areas following all corporate, state and federal food safety and sanitation procedures
- ensures proper food handling, presentation, portion control and maintenance of appropriate serving temperatures
- maintains sanitation of equipment, supplies and utensils
- cleans workstation thoroughly before leaving area
- keeps display equipment clean and free of debris during meal service
- interacts with customers to resolve complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner
- relays relevant information directly to supervisor
- demonstrates complete understanding of daily menu items and accurately explains them to associates and customers
- keeps up with peak production and service hours
- monitors inventory and deliveries of product and supplies
- tracks product production, consumption and waste
- informs supervisor when supplies or product are low
- performs other duties as assigned
