The current opportunity is for a full-time Sous Chef position located at Ann Arbor Public Schools in Ann Arbor, Michigan. This role is integral to supporting the Executive Chef and ensuring the smooth operation of the school kitchen. Working Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, the Sous Chef will contribute to preparing and cooking food items according to approved recipes and production standards while maintaining excellent food quality and safety. They will also oversee and coordinate the activities of kitchen staff including cooks and other food-service associates, ensure proper food storage and sanitation protocols, and interact with customers to resolve any concerns in a service-oriented manner. The position offers a competitive pay range from $19.75 to $22.00 per hour with comprehensive benefits for full-time employees.

This role requires prior culinary experience or a culinary certificate, highlighting the importance of culinary skills and knowledge in a high-volume foodservice environment. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Prior culinary experience or culinary certificate required
  • Ability to work full-time Monday through Friday from 6:00 am to 2:30 pm
  • Capability to lift and carry food service supplies and equipment as needed
  • Must comply with all corporate, state, and federal food safety regulations
  • Ability to supervise and lead a team
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation

Job Duties

  • Cooks and prepares food following approved recipes and production standards
  • Ensures all deadlines are met based on production orders
  • Supervises hourly food service associates including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, participating in reviews and recommending disciplinary action as appropriate
  • Stores food in designated areas following all corporate, state and federal food safety and sanitation procedures
  • Ensures proper food handling, presentation, portion control and maintenance of appropriate serving temperatures
  • Maintains sanitation of equipment, supplies and utensils
  • Cleans workstation thoroughly before leaving area
  • Keeps display equipment clean and free of debris during meal service to comply with sanitation, safety, production and merchandising requirements
  • Interacts with customers to resolve complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner and relays relevant information to supervisor
  • Demonstrates complete understanding of daily menu items and accurately explains them to associates and customers
  • Keeps up with peak production and service hours
  • Monitors inventory and deliveries of product and supplies
  • Tracks product production, consumption and waste
  • Informs supervisor when supplies or product are low
  • Performs other duties as assigned
