This full-time Sous Chef position at MBK Senior Living offers an exciting opportunity to impact the lives of seniors through the culinary arts. As a Sous Chef, you will play a pivotal role in delivering exceptional dining experiences to residents, adhering to dietary needs, and maintaining the utmost standards of food safety and quality. The role reports directly to the Director of Dining Services and involves hands-on food preparation and kitchen management. Your responsibilities will include preparing appetizing and nutritionally balanced meals according to planned menus, overseeing the kitchen staff including cooks and servers, managing food inventory and purchasing, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Age over 18 years
  • Background clearance as required by government regulations
  • Retain a current Food Handlers permit
  • Minimum of two years experience cooking
  • Negative TB test results
  • Excellent communication skills including speaking, writing, and reading English
  • Ability to operate computer, necessary software programs, scanners, copiers, and fax machines
  • Ability to maintain professionalism at all times with team members, residents, family members, and visitors
  • Must be able to lift and push 50 lbs
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day and community

Job Duties

  • Arrive to work on time and prepare for your shift
  • Maintain professional appearance and promote a positive and friendly team work attitude
  • Prepare all food items in accordance with planned menus and recipes, delegating as appropriate
  • Consult with the Director of Dining Services on menu changes focusing on nutrition, seasonal preference, budget, and presentation
  • Ensure all food is served at the correct temperature and charted appropriately
  • Assist with purchasing food and supplies and keep inventory records
  • Record temperatures of refrigerators, freezers, and dishwashers
  • Conduct quality assurance tests for all food items, ensuring proper portions and presentation
  • Conduct daily pre-meal meetings and expedite the Chef's line during peak hours
  • Help supervise and assist other cooks, servers, and dishwashers
  • Review and prepare upcoming menu items ensuring adequate stock
  • Maintain awareness of team dynamics, inventory, safety, cleanliness, budget, and expenses
  • Understand and implement proper food safety procedures including cooking temperatures and sanitation
  • Assist in food preparation for special meals and parties
  • Follow community fire safety and infection control practices and report unsafe conditions
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Dining Services
