Job Description

MetroHealth Old Brooklyn Campus is part of The MetroHealth System, a renowned health care organization dedicated to redefining community health and well-being beyond traditional medical care. Established in 1837, The MetroHealth System serves as Cuyahoga County's safety-net provider operating four hospitals, four emergency departments, and over 20 health centers. The system emphasizes comprehensive health improvement by addressing social determinants such as affordable housing, clean environments, economic opportunities, access to fresh food, convenient transportation, and legal aid. This holistic approach reflects MetroHealth's commitment to not only treating diseases but also preventing them by enhancing the quality of life for the community it serves.

The Food Production Supervisor role at MetroHealth Old Brooklyn Campus is an integral position responsible for ensuring efficient, safe, and high-quality food production operations within various food service areas including catering, trayline, cafeteria, retail outlets, and room service. This role demands a balance of supervisory abilities and culinary expertise to maintain compliance with all safety, sanitation, and quality standards. The supervisor plays a key part in upholding MetroHealth’s customer service standards, ensuring every meal and food service event contributes to the positive experience of patients, visitors, and staff. The Food Production Supervisor is expected to monitor the food production team and operations closely while fostering a team-oriented environment that prioritizes safety and quality.

In this role, candidates will work a standard 80-hour biweekly schedule, specifically on the 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. shift, which allows for consistent management presence and quality oversight during peak food production hours. The position requires a strong foundation in culinary arts, including baking, salad preparation, hot food preparation, banquet production, and service. Candidates must have knowledge of safe food handling and storage procedures, ensuring all practices meet regulatory and organizational safety requirements.

Successful candidates will have prior supervisory experience within an institutional or similar food production environment, possessing the leadership skills to manage a team effectively in a fast-paced healthcare setting. While a culinary degree is strongly preferred, related experience such as previous Sous Chef or Head Cook roles will also be considered valuable. Food safety certification is crucial, with candidates required to have or obtain ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification or an equivalent Level 2 food protection course certification as per Ohio Administrative Code requirements.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to MetroHealth’s mission of holistic health care by delivering nutritious, safe, and high-quality meals that support patient recovery and community wellness. The Food Production Supervisor ensures operational excellence and adherence to compliance standards, fostering an environment that promotes health and well-being through excellent food service management.
