Job Description
Hai Hospitality is a dynamic and renowned multi-concept restaurant group based in Austin, Texas, that includes the celebrated brands Uchi, Uchiko, Uchiba, and Loro. Known for their innovative cuisine, dedication to hospitality, and deep community engagement, these establishments have set a benchmark for contemporary dining experiences throughout the regions they serve. Hai Hospitality is a recipient of numerous awards and honors, reflecting their commitment to culinary excellence, creativity, and a positive work culture. Their focus is not only on delivering exceptional dishes but also on fostering a vibrant atmosphere where both guests and employees thrive. At each of their locations, including forthcoming spots like Uchi Nashville, the emphasis is on meticulously crafted food offerings paired with an immersive hospitality experience. They encourage continuous learning, celebrate craftsmanship, and provide ample opportunities for career advancement within the company.
The role of Sous Chef / Executive Sous Chef at Hai Hospitality represents a unique and rewarding opportunity for culinary professionals who are passionate about food, team development, and delivering outstanding guest experiences. The position is full-time and tailored for individuals seeking to join a growing, award-winning organization that values innovation and creativity in the kitchen. Candidates who accept this opportunity will initially train at one of the company’s current locations—such as Austin, TX (preferred), Houston, TX, Dallas, TX, Miami, FL, Denver, CO, Scottsdale, AZ, or West Hollywood, CA—before relocating temporarily to contribute to the launch of the new Uchi Nashville establishment. Lodging during the training period will be provided.
In this role, the Sous Chef / Executive Sous Chef will be responsible for inspiring, mentoring, and developing a team of talented chefs and cooks, ensuring the highest culinary standards are consistently met in a fast-paced, high-quality scratch kitchen environment. This position requires strong leadership skills to foster an energetic and cooperative team culture centered around excellence and continuous learning. The Sous Chef will also assist across various kitchen stations as needed, preparing exceptional dishes and helping to create memorable dining experiences for guests. Administrative duties such as ordering supplies, scheduling, and inventory control are also important components of the job.
Ideal candidates will have experience managing high-volume kitchens and a demonstrated passion for food preparation and hospitality. They should be adept at providing constructive feedback, motivating their team, and honoring successes collectively. A strong work ethic, dedication to craftsmanship, and the ability to thrive under pressure are essential qualities. Employees working with Hai Hospitality enjoy robust benefits including medical, dental, vision, and accident insurance options, an employee assistance program for mental health support, and an employer-matched 401k savings plan. Additional perks such as dining discounts, support for family members’ medical premiums, paid maternity and paternity leave, and paid vacation bolster the organization’s commitment to work-life balance.
Working at Hai Hospitality means joining an inclusive, diverse, and supportive community that values each team member’s contributions and provides ongoing opportunities for professional growth. This role suits culinary professionals ready to enhance their careers in an innovative environment that celebrates passion, creativity, and a genuine commitment to hospitality.
