The role of Sous Chef at Highland Springs is a dynamic and vital position within the culinary team, designed for experienced culinary professionals who possess strong leadership skills and a passion for delivering exceptional food experiences. This position is integral to the innovative Signature Dining Programs, which focus on a la minute cooking and chef-inspired creations that bring fresh, high-quality meals to residents. As a Sous Chef, you will work in state-of-the-art kitchens equipped with top-notch culinary technology and collaborate with a dedicated team committed to excellence in food preparation and service.
The Sous Chef is responsible for supervising the scheduling, training, and discipline of all culinary and utility staff, ensuring smooth kitchen operations and maintaining high standards of food safety, quality, and presentation. This role also involves overseeing daily kitchen production to guarantee timely, well-prepared meals that meet residents' dietary needs and preferences. Additionally, the Sous Chef manages kitchen sanitation, utility operations, and the organization of dining rooms and storage facilities. The position requires a hands-on leader who can step into the Executive Chef’s shoes when needed, demonstrating strong organizational skills, creativity, and the ability to motivate and support team members.
This full-time position offers competitive compensation commensurate with experience, ranging from $56,000 to $65,000 annually, with eligibility for up to an 8% bonus. Job Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years full-service experience required
- minimum of 6 months supervisory and coaching experience required
- must be able to work some weekends and holidays
- be able to lift and or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- ability to work in extreme temperatures, including hot kitchen to refrigerators and freezers

Job Duties
- Supervises the scheduling, training, and discipline of all culinary and utility staff
- oversees all culinary functions in the chef's absence, including staffing, food production, utility management, and kitchen sanitation
- manages daily kitchen production and food preparation to ensure timely service of resident meals
- directs the preparation and service of all menu items, including adherence to recipes, proper food handling, food safety, quality, dietary restrictions, and production forecasts
- oversees the organization and sanitation of dining rooms, kitchen, storage areas, and loading dock
