The Sous Chef will assist in planning, scheduling, and supervising kitchen personnel to ensure operations run smoothly and efficiently. They will be instrumental in developing menus and ensuring consistent production aligned with the Kitchen Manager's expectations. As part of their responsibilities, the Sous Chef will also provide on-the-job training to kitchen staff, implement staff education programs, and oversee food ordering, receiving, and proper storage to maintain inventory accuracy. The role demands a hands-on approach to supervising food production, sanitation, and food service, particularly serving apartment and Health Center residents within the community. This position offers flexible work schedules, providing AM and PM shifts with generally no hours past 8 pm, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking work-life balance. The salary for this position is competitive, starting at $20 per hour with an additional $4 weekend differential. Job Requirements

  • Previous experience in a kitchen or food service environment

Job Duties

  • Assists in the planning, scheduling and supervising of kitchen personnel
  • Assists in the development of all menus and assures implementation and production of these menus consistent with Kitchen Manager's expectations
  • Assures staff education is provided to kitchen employees in accordance with the staff education program
  • Provides on-the-job training for food preparation and kitchen employees
  • Develops work assignments for all kitchen personnel, assigning special jobs and spot checking work to ensure standards are met
  • Assists in all ordering, receiving and proper storage of all food and supplies
  • Supervises production, sanitation and food service to apartment and Health Center residents
  • Handles inventory controls and maintaining minimum/maximum par levels
  • Monitors all line checks, temperature logs and systems pertaining to kitchen operations
  • Leads in the development and implementation of standardized recipes and menu specifications
  • Performs specific work duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Ensures all DHEC controls are in place, including cleanliness, proper heating and cooling, and proper holding of products in coolers and freezers
