The role currently open is for a hospitality-minded Sous Chef who will play a vital part in maintaining the high standards of food service within the community. This position is full service and involves a cook-to-order restaurant setting, allowing chefs to showcase their culinary skills and creativity in a dynamic environment. The community offers flexible work shifts, both AM and PM, typically with no work hours later than 8 pm, allowing for a healthy work-life balance. Staff education and on-the-job training are integral to this role, as the Sous Chef will be responsible for helping kitchen employees improve their skills and knowledge. Responsibilities also include ordering inventory, receiving supplies, proper food storage, and supervising production and sanitation standards to ensure compliance with health regulations.

Maintaining inventory controls and monitoring kitchen systems such as temperature logs and line checks are crucial to guarantee food safety and quality. The Sous Chef will also lead the development and standardization of recipes and menu specifications, ensuring consistency and satisfaction among residents. Diligently maintaining cleanliness and organization in the kitchen, along with monitoring proper heating, cooling, and holding of food products, are essential to the position. The role offers a competitive salary starting at $20 per hour plus a $4 weekend differential, recognizing the importance of the candidate’s skills and dedication.

Job Requirements

  • Previous experience as a cook or culinary assistant

Job Duties

  • Assists in the planning, scheduling and supervising of kitchen personnel
  • Assists in the development of all menus and assures implementation and production of these menus
  • Assures staff education is provided to kitchen employees and provides on-the-job training
  • Develops work assignments for kitchen personnel, assigning special jobs and spot checking work
  • Assists in ordering, receiving and proper storage of all food and supplies
  • Supervises production, sanitation and food service to apartment and Health Center residents
  • Handles inventory controls and maintaining par levels
  • Monitors line checks, temperature logs and systems related to kitchen operation
  • Leads in development and implementation of standardized recipes and menu specifications
  • Performs work duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Ensures all DHEC controls are in place with cleanliness, proper heating and cooling of products
  • Maintains proper holding of products in all coolers and freezers
