Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum one year experience as a cook in hospital or long term care facility
  • Ability to read and follow recipes and technical procedures
  • ServSafe Certificate must be obtained and maintained
  • Must remain in good standing with Department of Public Health
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to stand and walk frequently
  • Effective communication skills
  • Willingness to supervise and work under supervision

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience as a cook in hospital or long term care facility for at least one year
  • Ability to read technical procedures and recipes
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
  • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret various instructions
  • Must obtain and maintain ServSafe Certificate
  • Knowledge and experience with PCC preferred
  • Good standing with the Department of Public Health

Job Duties

  • Maintain kitchen and cooking area in a safe, orderly, clean and sanitary manner
  • Prepare tasteful meals and cook a variety of foods in large quantities
  • Follow prepared menus and portion control guides
  • Prepare special diets accurately
  • Record food temperatures for meals
  • Prepare pureed foods
  • Work cooperatively with personnel in all departments
  • Maintain quaternary solution in sanitizer buckets
  • Assist with serving meals
  • Clean cooking area and serving carts
  • Report resident care concerns to Administrator or Director of Nurses
  • Participate in orientation and ongoing training of dietary staff
  • Make food presentation appealing to residents
  • Supervise and work under supervision
  • Ensure all cleaning schedules are followed
