Job Description

Compass Group, a global leader in foodservice management, is hiring for a Sous Chef position within their Chartwells K12 division, which focuses on providing high-quality food programs in educational settings. Located at Norwalk Public Schools in Norwalk, Connecticut, this role is a full-time position offering a schedule from Monday to Friday, primarily from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm, with occasional nights or weekend hours as needed. Job Requirements

  • Servsafe certification is a must
  • Volume batch cooking experience
  • Ability to lead large groups
  • Computer skills
  • Full-time availability Monday to Friday with occasional nights or weekends
  • Ability to adhere to health and safety standards and company policies
  • Effective communication and leadership skills

Job Qualifications

  • 5 years of related culinary experience including 1 year at the management level
  • Experience in restaurants, hotels, corporate dining, education, military, health care, and/or related food service operations
  • Knowledge of food and industry trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, safety, food cost controls, and presentation
  • Ability to set up and distribute production sheets
  • Supervisory, leadership, training, management, and coaching skills
  • ServSafe or Department of Health certification is preferred
  • Computer skills and knowledge of MS Office products including Excel
  • Associate's degree in Culinary Arts is preferred

Job Duties

  • Assist in coordinating and participating in the preparation and cooking of various food items
  • Assist with planning and creating menus
  • Roll out new culinary programs in conjunction with the marketing and culinary team
  • Assist with managing cost controls and controlling expenditure
  • Perform other duties as assigned
