The position of Sous Chef at Summit is a full-time role with a starting wage of $18 per hour. This position is scheduled from Tuesday through Saturday, 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The Sous Chef plays a key role in maintaining the culinary standards for the community by ensuring food preparation meets quality and safety guidelines and residents receive exceptional dining experiences. As the Gustatory Genius, the Sous Chef ensures portion control and waste minimization while upholding nutritional standards. They act as the Kitchen Curator by supervising the cleanliness, sanitation, and proper functionality of kitchen equipment and food storage systems.

Moreover, the Sous Chef leads the culinary team with a commitment to coaching, training, and holding staff accountable to the highest standards. This leadership role requires the candidate to engage day-to-day with the team to maintain operational excellence. The Sous Chef is expected to bring professionalism, culinary expertise, and a passion for serving seniors at Arrow Senior Living.

This position demands physical activity including standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Additionally, comfort working near extreme temperatures such as cooking surfaces and walk-in freezers is essential. The work environment is primarily indoors, with occasional outdoor duties during events. Candidates must pass a criminal background check to be eligible.

Job Requirements

  • Must be at least eighteen years of age
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and stoop throughout the day
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds
  • Comfortable working in close contact with extreme temperatures including cooking surfaces and walk-in freezers
  • Ability to work primarily indoors but also available to work outside for events
  • Must pass a criminal background check

Job Qualifications

  • At least three years of experience in senior housing or a related field preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated skills, knowledge, and competency in leadership, training, and supervision
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills with management, professional, and support staff
  • Completed formal culinary, food service, or restaurant training or equivalent full-time supervisory or management-level work experience
  • Comfortable creating, modifying, and printing word processing and spreadsheet documents using Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to send, receive, and forward email

Job Duties

  • Ensure food items are prepared to culinary standards and provide residents with an exceptional dining experience while maintaining portion control and minimizing waste
  • Supervise and inspect all aspects of culinary service, including logs, cooking equipment, storage rotation, and food service regularly to ensure they are up-to-date, clean, and sanitary
  • Lead team in day-to-day operations through engagement, maintaining expectations, coaching and accountability
