The role available is that of a Sous Chef, a key leadership position within our kitchen team that plays a vital role in maintaining the high culinary standards our hotel is famous for. This full-time position offers a competitive salary ranging from $85,000 to $95,000 annually. The Sous Chef directly assists in overseeing daily kitchen operations, including menu planning, inventory control, and staff training, ensuring smooth and efficient kitchen performance. This position involves supervising and mentoring kitchen staff to uphold exceptional food preparation techniques, sanitation practices, and presentation standards. Compliance with local health and safety regulations is paramount, as is maintaining cleanliness and organization in all kitchen areas. The Sous Chef also monitors food quality and presentation, making necessary adjustments to consistently meet the hotel’s rigorous standards.
In addition to operational responsibilities, the Sous Chef collaborates closely with the Executive Chef on the development and execution of seasonal menus that reflect the hotel's brand identity and culinary vision. The role requires a proactive approach to staying current with culinary trends and techniques to innovate and enhance menu offerings continuously. The position entails various administrative tasks, such as scheduling shifts and ordering supplies, contributing to the overall efficiency of the kitchen. The ideal candidate will have a well-rounded culinary background, strong leadership qualities, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cohesive team. Flexibility is necessary to accommodate evening, weekend, and holiday shifts. Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent culinary education
- Minimum 5 years of culinary experience in a leadership role preferably as a Sous Chef
- Proven ability to manage kitchen teams and operations in a fast-paced environment
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and health standards
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Legal eligibility to work in the United States
- Availability to work flexible shifts including evenings weekends and holidays
- Ability to maintain professional demeanor in a luxury hospitality setting
Job Qualifications
- 5 years culinary experience as a Sous Chef or leadership role in a property of similar standing
- Multi-outlet experience a plus
- Experience with managing union employees
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Microsoft office suite experience
- Possess holistic and well-developed culinary skill sets and have a well-rounded and diverse culinary background
- Ability to work cohesively and collectively as part of a team
- Complete knowledge of statutory regulations and requirements in food handling including full knowledge of food safety hygiene and related practices
- Flexibility to work evenings weekends and holidays as needed
- Able to work independently yet also possessing strong leadership qualities to provide guidance to those who work in the kitchen
- Must have and maintain a professional appearance for a luxury hotel
- Basic math skills
Job Duties
- Assist in the daily operations of the kitchen including menu planning inventory management and staff training
- Supervise and mentor kitchen staff providing guidance on food preparation techniques sanitation practices and presentation standards
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations maintaining cleanliness and organization in all kitchen areas
- Monitor food quality and presentation adjust as necessary to uphold the hotel's high standards
- Participate in the hiring and onboarding of new kitchen staff fostering a culture of teamwork and collaboration
- Assist in cost control measures including tracking food waste managing inventory and optimizing labor efficiency
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with front-of-house staff to ensure seamless service during peak periods
- Follow proper steps to ensure compliance with local Health Department Authority
- Collaborate with the Executive Chef to develop and execute seasonal menus that reflect the hotel's brand and culinary vision
- Stay up-to-date with culinary trends and techniques continuously seeking opportunities for innovation in menu offerings
- Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling shifts and ordering supplies
- Perform all other duties as assigned
