Within this dynamic and nurturing environment, the Sous Chef position at Oakmont of Camarillo plays a pivotal role in delivering an outstanding culinary experience to its residents, their families, and visitors. This is a full-time opportunity with a competitive pay range of $22.00 to $23.00 per hour. The role requires the preparation of food from scratch according to approved menus, property policies, and pertinent regulations, ensuring consistently high standards of meal quality, presentation, and taste. The Sous Chef works closely with the Culinary Services Director and, in their absence, assumes overall responsibility for the culinary department’s operations. This includes directing staffing, supervision, meal preparation, inventory, and maintaining sanitary and safety standards throughout the kitchen.
The Sous Chef is instrumental in crafting personalized dining experiences that cater to the unique preferences of seniors, including those with cognitive impairments. They assist in planning, preparing, and executing daily meals, special events, and marketing functions with a focus on quality and appeal. Responsibilities extend to managing food portions, eliminating waste, ordering supplies within budget guidelines, and ensuring proper storage and organization of food and kitchen equipment. The role requires flexibility, strong decision-making capabilities in stressful situations, and excellent communication skills, both in managing staff and interacting with residents. Moreover, the Sous Chef must be proficient in standard kitchen and office technologies, including Microsoft Office programs, while embracing Oakmont’s commitment to health and safety protocols, including COVID-19 regulations.

Job Requirements
- Must be eighteen years of age
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Six months of experience working in a restaurant or similar environment as a cook preferred
- Able to safely operate standard cooking equipment and utensils
- Proficient in MS Office programs
- Able to operate standard office equipment
- Must pass criminal background check and health screenings including physical and TB tests
- Comply with vaccination, COVID-19 testing, and PPE requirements as mandated by Oakmont Management Group
Job Qualifications
- Must be eighteen years of age
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- College courses or education in food service or management preferred
- Six months experience in a restaurant or similar setting as a cook preferred
- Able to safely operate standard cooking equipment and utensils
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs
- Able to operate standard office equipment
- Knowledge of or ability to learn assisted living and dementia care practices
- Able to work patiently with seniors and cognitively impaired individuals
- Flexible and able to adapt to changing situations and prioritize tasks
- Able to understand and follow written and oral instructions
- Must pass criminal background check and health screenings including physical and TB tests
- Comply with health and safety protocols including vaccination, COVID-19 screenings, testing, and PPE use when required
Job Duties
- Ensure the dining experience is of high quality including menu selection, meal preparation, meal presentation, food taste, and meal service
- Assist with planning, preparation, and delivery of all community meals including special events and marketing activities
- Prepare and serve food following sanitary regulations and property policies
- Develop and implement culinary procedures to ensure timely and properly temperatured food
- Maintain adherence to menu plans and assist in determining food quality and quantity
- Control meal portions and food consistency while minimizing waste
- Act as Department Manager in the absence of the Culinary Services Director overseeing staffing and supervision
- Assist in purchasing, inventory, and organization of food and supplies
- Maintain sanitary work environment and conform to food storage and handling regulations
- Inspect food storage and utility areas for cleanliness and supply control
- Order food within budget and maintain accurate inventories
- Train culinary personnel on correct receipt of food orders
- Regularly engage with residents to tailor culinary offerings
