The Sous Chef role at Hyatt is a vital position within the culinary team, designed for individuals passionate about culinary arts and leadership. This role is responsible for managing specific kitchen departments, directly supporting senior culinary leadership including the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef. The Sous Chef is entrusted with maintaining Hyatt’s high standards for food quality, safety, and presentation while assisting in the smooth operation of kitchen activities. The role also serves as a critical link between the culinary team and other departments within the hotel, ensuring a cohesive teamwork environment that ultimately enhances the guest experience.

As a Sous Chef at Hyatt, you will lead and inspire your team to deliver exceptional culinary creations that align with Hyatt’s brand and quality standards. Your responsibilities will range from supervising food preparation, developing creative menus, coordinating special events, to managing kitchen staff through scheduling, training, and performance evaluation. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Formal culinary training or degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a professional kitchen environment
  • Previous leadership experience in culinary operations
  • Ability to manage kitchen staff and work collaboratively
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards
  • Flexibility to work various shifts including weekends and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or relevant culinary leadership role
  • Culinary degree or equivalent professional qualification
  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent knowledge of cooking methods, kitchen equipment, and best practices
  • Creativity and ability to develop innovative menu items
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Job Duties

  • Support senior leadership by developing and assuming basic management responsibilities
  • Assume the role of liaison between all departments within the culinary division and all other hotel departments
  • Supervise the preparation and cooking of various food items
  • Develop and implement creative menu items that adhere to Hyatt brand standards
  • Plan, coordinate & implement special events and holiday functions
  • Manage hourly kitchen employees through scheduling, payroll, training, coaching, evaluating and hiring
  • May manage other key culinary leadership roles including supervisor and other less senior Sous Chefs
  • Lead and coach the team towards achieving exceptional guest service and employee satisfaction results
  • Monitor food production, ordering, cost, and quality and consistency on a daily basis
  • Ensure proper safety and sanitation of all kitchen facilities and equipment
