The Sous Chef position at SkyChefs in San Francisco offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a well-established and respected culinary team. This full-time, on-site role comes with a competitive salary range from $85,000 to $90,000 per year. The Sous Chef will play a critical leadership role in overseeing the preparation of airline meals that meet the company’s high standards for quality, taste, and presentation. With direct responsibility for supervising 25 to 50 kitchen production workers, the Sous Chef ensures that all food items are prepared according to menu specifications, with careful attention to portion sizes, seasoning, and overall quality. Maintaining stringent safety, hygiene, and HACCP guidelines is a fundamental aspect of the role, as is the flexibility to work varying shifts including weekends and nights to meet operational demands.

The role demands a culinary professional with at least three to five years of experience in commercial cooking or a culinary apprenticeship or certification. Candidates must possess strong leadership skills to manage, motivate, and develop kitchen staff effectively. The Sous Chef will also take responsibility for inventory management, food ordering, and conducting quality control checks. Moreover, this position involves stepping in for the Executive Chef during absences and actively participating in menu development and company initiatives such as Lean Manufacturing and Global Quality Standards. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other Windows-based applications is also essential. Job Duties

  • Executes and supervises food production activities e.g. proper cleaning cutting marinating seasoning cooking of food items
  • Assumes responsibilities of Executive Chef when not available ie vacation off-days menu presentation to customers
  • Supervise coordinate and control kitchen helpers in food storage eg maintaining tidiness following the first in first out principle
  • Conducts coordinates and supervises inventories
  • Monitors material consumption and orders required food and equipment on a daily basis to satisfy the daily production plan
  • Participates in the development of food products and menus as needed for menu presentations
  • Must be aware of content in catering manuals conducts updates when necessary
  • Executes countermeasures in the production in case of customer complaints
  • Supports training of kitchen helpers
