Job Description

Sweetgreen is a national restaurant brand that has been at the forefront of redefining fast food since 2007. It has grown into a movement dedicated to building healthier communities by connecting people to real, fresh food through relationships with farmers and local producers. Sweetgreen operates in a fast-casual dining environment where quality, sustainability, and customer satisfaction are paramount. The company is committed not only to delivering flavorful and nutritious meals but also to fostering a workplace culture that promotes growth, inclusivity, and opportunities for its employees. Sweetgreen prides itself on an innovative kitchen experience that eschews traditional cooking methods such as grills and fryers, instead relying on state-of-the-art kitchens, smart systems, and an approach to food preparation that emphasizes care and consistency.

The role of Culinary Lead, also known as Kitchen Lead at Sweetgreen, is a pivotal position within the restaurant’s operational framework. In this non-managerial leadership role, the Culinary Lead is the food quality expert responsible for ensuring all dishes meet Sweetgreen’s high standards of flavor, food safety, and presentation during every shift. Unlike many traditional restaurant roles, this position does not involve scheduling or conducting performance reviews but centers on executing consistent food preparation and presentation practices. The Culinary Lead takes charge of the kitchen’s food production, coaching team members, and managing the timing of meal preparation to meet customer demand efficiently. This role involves supervising the culinary process with great attention to detail, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and actively partnering with Shift Leaders and Managers to uphold overall operational excellence.

This is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about food quality who desire to develop leadership skills without the full spectrum of people management responsibilities. Culinary Leads gain valuable experience in a high-volume environment characterized by a commitment to fresh ingredients and modern culinary techniques. Top-performing Kitchen Leads at Sweetgreen are given clear paths to advance into Shift Leader and General Manager roles, often within two to three years, reflecting the company’s investment in internal career development. Sweetgreen offers competitive wages, medical, dental, and vision benefits, and an inclusive work environment that champions diversity and equity. Additionally, employees enjoy perks such as paid time off, free meals during shifts, and access to a custom merchandise shop, making this role appealing not only for those passionate about food but also for those seeking meaningful career progression in the restaurant industry.
