Job Description

Splendido is a premier Life Plan Community located in Oro Valley, Arizona, designed for adults age 55 and better. Renowned for its beautiful location and resort-style amenities, Splendido offers residents a vibrant and active lifestyle with various housing options including 293 Terrace and Villa Homes. The community also provides comprehensive care services such as assisted living, memory care, long-term care, and rehabilitation services. With multiple dining venues, a fitness center, an art studio, a putting green, and numerous lifestyle programs, Splendido fosters a welcoming environment where residents can pursue their interests and enjoy a high quality of life.

This position is for an experienced Sous Chef who will play a key leadership role in our culinary team serving older adults across the community. The culinary services provided are exceptional, emphasizing a from-scratch dining experience and offering a diverse menu with Mediterranean cuisine across five restaurants and a licensed Care Center. Unlike institutional cooking, the focus is on high-quality, flavorful meals designed to delight residents, their families, guests, and staff.

The Sous Chef will be responsible for consistently preparing and ensuring the prompt delivery of well-crafted meals. This role requires a deep commitment to culinary excellence and the ability to lead a team while maintaining high standards for food safety, hygiene, and sanitation, following Health Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) guidelines. The ideal candidate will also have strong supervisory skills to train kitchen staff, assist in menu development, manage inventory within budget, monitor food production to reduce waste, and ensure visually appealing dish presentation.

Attention to detail is crucial as the Sous Chef will handle documentation such as production and temperature logs and oversee thorough cleaning and maintenance of kitchen equipment. The role demands hands-on involvement and efficient management to uphold smooth kitchen operations and deliver pleasurable dining experiences consistently. This position is not only a culinary role but also an opportunity to contribute to the well-being and satisfaction of older adults in a supportive community setting.

Mather, the nonprofit parent organization based in Evanston, Illinois, founded in 1941, supports Splendido and shares its mission to develop innovative programs and residences for older adults committed to aging well. Mather has been nationally recognized as a Great Place to Work and a Nation's Best and Brightest in Wellness. Employment with Mather reflects a commitment to inclusive excellence and respect for diversity.
