Job Description
Lafayette Hotels is a distinguished family-owned and operated hospitality company with a strong presence across Maine and New Hampshire, boasting over 30 hotels and restaurants. Established with a passion for providing exceptional guest experiences, Lafayette Hotels has cultivated a reputation for combining comfort, quality, and an authentic taste of local charm. This company operates in some of the most breathtaking locations, such as Maine's Acadia National Park, the Southern Maine Beaches, and the White Mountains in New Hampshire, making it a unique destination for both travelers seeking adventure and locals enjoying a beloved retreat. The company's commitment to excellence is reflected not only in its hospitality services but also in its dedication to fostering a positive, engaging work environment for its employees. They have an established online presence through their website, www.visitlafayettehotels.com, which offers insights into their various properties and services.
One of the signature establishments under the Lafayette Hotels umbrella is a beachfront restaurant located on Ogunquit Beach. This restaurant features an outdoor deck that serves as an inviting space to enjoy spectacular ocean views and the refreshing sea breeze. The restaurant operates from the end of April through early November, catering to a vibrant blend of tourists and a loyal local clientele. It serves breakfast and lunch daily and includes a full-service bar with both indoor and outdoor seating. During the peak summer season, the restaurant handles approximately 300-400 covers per day, with a significant surge in patronage on the Fourth of July, when it remains open late for the annual fireworks display and serves up to 700 covers. The vibrant, fast-paced environment underscores the restaurant's popularity and capacity to deliver high-quality dining experiences even during the busiest times.
The role of Sous Chef at Lafayette Hotels is a critical one, designed for a hospitality professional who thrives under pressure and embodies strong leadership. The Sous Chef will work closely with the Executive Chef to oversee kitchen operations, ensuring that all meals are prepared to the highest standards of quality and consistency. This position demands excellent communication skills and a collaborative spirit, as the Sous Chef must coordinate effectively with the front-of-house supervisors and the broader kitchen team. The ideal candidate will have a solid foundation in culinary techniques, including proper knife skills, cooking methods, and recipe execution. Responsibility also includes maintaining inventory, managing supplies, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations across all food storage and preparation areas.
This role requires someone who is adaptable and capable of stepping into the Executive Chef's role when necessary, leading with confidence to maintain smooth kitchen operations. The Sous Chef is expected to be hands-on, working alongside the team to prepare a variety of dishes that reflect the restaurant's diverse menu and high standards. They should be committed to maintaining an organized, clean, and sanitary workspace, contributing to a professional and efficient kitchen environment. Prospective candidates should be prepared for a dynamic work schedule that includes 8 to 10-hour shifts, weekends, and holidays. Lafayette Hotels also provides housing options, making this a compelling opportunity for culinary professionals seeking to advance their careers while enjoying the stimulating and picturesque surroundings of Maine and New Hampshire.
The compensation package includes bonus pay and additional supplemental pay opportunities, reflecting the company's recognition of hard work and dedication. Employees benefit from flexible scheduling, employee discounts, paid training, paid time off, and a 401(k) matching plan, underlining Lafayette Hotels' commitment to the well-being and growth of their team members. As an equal opportunity employer, Lafayette Hotels values diversity and inclusion, welcoming applicants from all backgrounds to apply.
