Job Description
The Junto is a unique and modern-day embodiment of the ideals originally championed by Ben Franklin and his historic club of the same name. Founded on the principle of mutual improvement and intellectual exchange, The Junto serves as a dynamic public gathering space located in Columbus. Reflecting the spirit of its namesake, this establishment brings together visitors, locals, entrepreneurs, and artists to collaborate, share ideas, and inspire one another. Functioning as both a welcoming destination and a landmark within the city, The Junto contributes to the cultural and social fabric of Columbus while promoting community values and fostering meaningful human connections.
As part of the esteemed Makeready collection, The Junto not only offers exceptional hospitality but also places significant emphasis on the well-being and development of its team members. This organization has built its reputation on inclusive values, guiding principles, and a commitment to workplace equality, ensuring that every employee can thrive by being their authentic self regardless of background or identity. The company is an equal opportunity employer, fostering a supportive environment where performance and qualifications are the key measures of success.
The role of Sous Chef at The Junto is central to realizing the establishment’s culinary vision and maintaining the highest standards of gastronomic excellence. This position is ideal for a passionate culinary professional who delights in the art of food preparation and views cooking as an opportunity to bring people together over shared meals and experiences. The Sous Chef will work closely under the Executive Chef, leveraging both culinary and managerial skills to support daily kitchen operations, menu design, and team leadership.
The individual selected for this role will actively participate in the preparation and execution of diverse food menus, ensuring that every dish meets the restaurant’s quality standards for taste, presentation, and timely delivery. In addition, this person will frequently fill in for the Executive Chef when necessary, taking charge of food preparation planning and kitchen management. A key aspect of this position is problem-solving and the ability to swiftly manage and resolve any operational challenges that arise during service. This requires a calm, detail-oriented, and decisive leader who values cleanliness, efficiency, and teamwork.
Leadership responsibilities also include training and mentoring culinary team members, establishing clear schedules, and enforcing strict sanitation and safety regulations to comply with health standards. The Sous Chef will play a pivotal role in developing a high-performing team that can consistently deliver an exceptional guest experience. The company values traits such as patience, understanding, and a meticulous attention to detail in its culinary leaders.
As an employee of The Junto and the larger Makeready family, the Sous Chef will enjoy a comprehensive benefits package designed to support personal health and professional growth. These include accommodating paid time off, medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401k retirement plans, and a variety of ancillary benefits. The company’s commitment to the happiness and well-being of its team members is reflected in the supportive work culture and adherence to guiding principles that promote collaboration, respect, and mutual success.
