The PantherDining Department is currently seeking a committed and skilled Sous Chef to join their team. This full-time, benefits-eligible position, with a salary range of $47,500 to $56,900, offers a unique opportunity to support the quality and operations of the dining halls at Georgia State University. The Sous Chef will work on a varied shift schedule and will be responsible for ensuring seamless food service operations, supervising culinary staff, and maintaining high standards of food safety and presentation. The role demands a versatile individual capable of stepping in as needed to support different roles within the department to ensure continuous and effective service delivery.

As a key leadership position, the Sous Chef will oversee scheduling, training, and evaluation of staff members, ensuring the dining team operates cohesively and efficiently to meet and exceed organizational goals. The role includes quality control checks, staff coaching, participation in menu development, inventory management, and adherence to budgetary and safety guidelines. Emphasis on food cost control, waste reduction, and regulatory compliance ensures sustainability and operational excellence. The successful candidate will be ServSafe certified and hold a bachelor’s degree in Food Services Management or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience within higher education settings is preferred, adding value to their understanding of the unique dining needs of a university community.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in food services management or related field and one year of related experience
  • ServSafe certified
  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds
  • Flexible schedule including nights and weekends
  • Ability to work in various temperature conditions
  • Good physical condition to bend, stoop, reach, and climb ladders

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Services Management or related field and one year of related experience
  • ServSafe certified
  • Previous work experience in higher education preferred
  • Strong knowledge of food safety regulations
  • Ability to lead and train a diverse team

Job Duties

  • Adheres to set guidelines, policies, and time schedules
  • Prepares next shift for success, assists in other areas as requested or needed
  • Performs quality control checks and trains staff on quality and presentation
  • Ensures all shifts are working together cohesively to accomplish goals in the dining hall
  • Responsible for scheduling, training program, and evaluating staff
  • Participates and leads in personnel actions including coaching and discipline
