The role of Sous Chef at Morrison Healthcare is a full-time position located at the Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. This position offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $20.00 to $25.00, with a schedule typically from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm including rotating weekends. The Sous Chef plays a key role in supporting the Executive Chef by preparing and cooking food in accordance with approved recipes and production standards. The position requires leadership skills to oversee the kitchen staff and ensure smooth day-to-day kitchen operations. Responsibilities include supervising cooks and food-service associates, managing food safety practices, maintaining sanitation standards, and monitoring inventory to prevent shortages or waste. The Sous Chef must also be customer service oriented, capable of resolving complaints professionally and fostering a positive atmosphere within the kitchen. Job Duties

  • Cook and prepare food following approved recipes and production standards
  • Ensure all deadlines are met based on production orders
  • Supervise hourly food service associates including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, reviews and recommending disciplinary action
  • Store food in designated areas following all corporate, state and federal food safety and sanitation procedures
  • Ensure proper food handling, presentation, portion control and maintenance of appropriate serving temperatures
  • Maintain sanitation of equipment, supplies and utensils
  • clean workstation thoroughly before leaving area and keep display equipment clean during meal service
  • Interact with customers to resolve complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner
  • Demonstrate understanding of daily menu items and accurately explain them to associates and customers
  • Monitor inventory and deliveries of product and supplies
  • track product production, consumption and waste
  • inform supervisor when supplies or product are low
  • Perform other duties as assigned
