Job Description
The Woodlands Country Club, located in The Woodlands, Texas, is a distinguished private golf and recreational facility that offers exceptional amenities to its members and guests. Known for its beautifully maintained courses, including the renowned Palmer Course, the club prides itself on delivering an extraordinary experience centered on hospitality, luxury, and a community atmosphere. This position is for a Sous Chef in the Food & Beverage Department reporting directly to the Executive Chef. As a key member of the culinary team, the Sous Chef plays a pivotal role in maintaining high standards in food preparation, quality, and presentation. The job is exempt status, reflecting the leadership and expertise required to manage kitchen operations effectively. The Sous Chef supports the Executive Chef by leading shifts, supervising kitchen staff, and ensuring compliance with company policies, health and safety regulations, and culinary programs including menu planning and inventory control.
The role requires an individual who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and who is dedicated to providing exceptional food service that exceeds guest expectations. The Sous Chef is responsible for ensuring proper cooking techniques, timely preparation and garnishing of dishes, and maintaining a clean, sanitary kitchen at all times. In the absence of the Executive Chef, the Sous Chef assumes full kitchen management responsibilities, upholding the highest standards of quality and operational excellence.
Additionally, effective communication skills are essential as this role involves coordination with other departments to communicate special events and ensure smooth service throughout the club. The Sous Chef must be proactive in responding to guest requests and able to foster a positive, collaborative atmosphere among kitchen staff. This position often requires working nights, weekends, and holidays, reflecting the dynamic nature of the hospitality industry.
Candidates must have prior culinary experience and a strong attention to detail, as well as the ability to lead and motivate a team. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, and candidates must obtain ServSafe certification within 30 days of hire. Furthermore, possessing a valid food service permit as required by local or state authorities is mandatory. Physical demands include being on feet for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and performing various kitchen duties requiring both physical and mental stamina.

Job Duties
- Comply with national programs such as menu program, approved product list and inventory procedures
- ensure proper methods of food preparation, portioning, cooking, garnishing and timeliness of food preparation
- supervise employees in the daily operation of the kitchen to ensure quality and timeliness of product
- respond quickly to guest requests in a friendly manner and follow up to ensure guest satisfaction
- ensure kitchen is clean and sanitary at all times
- assume chef responsibilities in their absence and ensure kitchen standards are maintained
- maintain constant communication between departments and keep other departments informed about special programs and events
