Job Description

Feeding Tampa Bay is a leading hunger relief organization serving ten counties across West Central Florida. As a prominent member of the Feeding America Network, Feeding Tampa Bay has a powerful mission to end hunger in the region through food distribution and community engagement initiatives. In the recent year, the organization successfully provided 85 million meals via direct services and collaborations with over 400 food pantry partners. The company is deeply committed to creating sustainable solutions for food insecurity by fostering connections among resources, partners, and programs that promote long-term stability for individuals, families, and seniors facing food scarcity. Feeding Tampa Bay’s Grow Code reflects the core values of honoring every individual, working together collaboratively, fostering creativity and innovation, speaking honestly, and maintaining a relentless focus on the organization's mission to nourish the community. This commitment to transformative impact underscores the organization’s dedication to equity, dignity, and unity in combating hunger throughout its service area.

The Sous Chef role at Feeding Tampa Bay is an integral leadership position within the culinary operations at Causeway Center. Reporting directly to the Executive Chef and operating primarily on-site, the Sous Chef oversees high-volume bulk meal production for various initiatives including Trinity Cafe locations, catering events, and contracted meal services. This position operates during early morning to early afternoon hours, maintaining flexibility for weekends and holidays as operational needs dictate, with compensation typically around $20.00 per hour. Rather than being solely a cooking role, the Sous Chef embodies a dynamic leadership presence that motivates and directs a diverse team of culinary staff and volunteers. The role demands precise culinary execution to prepare nutritious, flavorful meals at scale, while managing kitchen flow, food safety standards, and inventory control. Additionally, the Sous Chef plays a strategic part in coordinating food logistics, volunteer engagement, and ensuring the organization’s inclusive mission is modeled in all operations. The Sous Chef must master bulk cooking techniques, promote an equitable and respectful working environment, provide culinary training to volunteers, and maintain rigorous sanitation and safety protocols. This role also engages with community donors, volunteers, and partners, fostering positive relations that support the overall goals of Feeding Tampa Bay. Meticulous administrative functions such as reporting and budget tracking are part of the responsibilities as well. The ideal candidate will be highly organized, adept at communicating with diverse teams, and passionate about contributing to a mission-driven organization dedicated to eliminating hunger through innovation and community connection. This role offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to food justice while honing leadership and culinary skills under the guidance of culinary leadership and a collaborative team.
