LEYE's newest dual concept is scheduled to open in early Fall 2026 at Wolf Point, a landmark location that promises to bring an exciting new dining experience to the community. As part of this expansion, Lettuce Entertain You is actively hiring for the role of Sous Chef, a critical leadership position within the back-of-house (BOH) team. The Sous Chef will play an essential role in ensuring the kitchen operates smoothly and efficiently while maintaining the highest culinary standards.
The Sous Chef position at LEYE requires candidates to have a minimum of two years of sous chef experience, particularly within a full-service restaurant setting. This role involves running BOH shifts, managing kitchen operations including food preparation and cooking, supervising various BOH teams such as the dish staff, and ensuring inventory levels are maintained. The Sous Chef will lead pre-shift briefings, participate in quality checks—including line, temperature, and cooler checks—and work closely with the General Manager and management team to maintain the recipe book and control food costs effectively.
This role demands strong leadership and communication skills since the Sous Chef will partner closely with front-of-house (FOH) staff to coordinate timing and special requests, as well as oversee hiring, onboarding, training, and development of BOH staff. Physical readiness to work varied shifts, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and potential travel is required, as well as the ability to lift and move items up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Compensation for the Sous Chef role ranges from $55,000 to $75,000 annually, reflecting competitive salary standards within the industry. Job Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of sous chef experience
- Experience working in full-service restaurants
- Ability to lead and manage kitchen staff
- Strong communication skills
- Willingness to work varied shifts including early mornings, late nights and weekends
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Ability to work with or without overnight travel as needed
Job Qualifications
- 2-3 years of sous chef experience in a full-service restaurant
- Ability to lead and manage the kitchen staff
Job Duties
- Run BOH shifts and ensure effective and efficient BOH shifts and operations including food prep and cooking, ensure adequate inventory levels of food and supplies, and supervise the kitchen, dish and all other BOH teams
- Lead BOH pre-shift meetings and participate in line, temp and cooler checks and food tastings for the shift
- Partner with GM and/or designated managers/chefs to regularly review and maintain recipe books
- Perform regular line checks throughout the day to ensure quality of all menu items
- Purchase and order food product and supplies for the restaurant including daily product order
- Assist with tracking and controlling food cost
- Ensure effective communication of food production and timing issues, needs, and special requests between front of house (FOH) and BOH
- Partner with GM and management team to interview, hire, onboard, train, supervise and develop all BOH employees and teams as needed
- Model and promote teamwork across all teams
- Use tact and good judgment when dealing with challenges pertaining to guests, vendors and employees, and respond with patience and courtesy
- Work a variety of days and shifts (including early mornings, late nights and weekends) at multiple sites with or without overnight travel, as needed
- Move and lift up to 10 pounds, frequently move and/or lift up to 25 pounds, occasionally move and/or lift up to 50 pounds
