This establishment is celebrated for its carefully crafted menu that emphasizes simply prepared dishes made from expertly sourced, seasonal ingredients, with a particular focus on live-fire cooking techniques. Notably, the restaurant features one of the largest exclusively California wine lists in Chicago, catering to wine enthusiasts and food lovers alike. The Oakville Grill & Cellar also offers a unique tasting room experience, allowing guests to enjoy a true Napa Valley ambiance without leaving Fulton Market. This combination of unique culinary offerings and an exceptional wine list sets the Oakville Grill & Cellar apart as a premier dining destination in Chicago.
The Oakville Grill & Cellar is currently hiring a Sous Chef to join their dynamic culinary team. This position is offered through Lettuce Entertain You Restaurants, a well-respected and culinary-driven restaurant company known for its commitment to employee growth and development. The role of Sous Chef is critical to the smooth operation of the kitchen and overall dining experience. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of sous chef experience, possess strong leadership skills, and be passionate about creating high-quality dishes using seasonal ingredients. In this role, the Sous Chef will oversee back-of-house (BOH) shifts, ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently and effectively. Responsibilities include managing food preparation and cooking, maintaining inventory levels, supervising kitchen staff, and collaborating closely with management.
Besides the operational duties, the Sous Chef will also lead pre-shift meetings, conduct food tastings, and monitor food quality throughout service. A key aspect of the position is partnering with the General Manager and other designated managers or chefs to keep recipe books current and manage food costs carefully. This role demands excellent communication between front-of-house and back-of-house teams to ensure seamless coordination of food production and service timing. Additionally, the Sous Chef will play a vital role in hiring, onboarding, training, and developing BOH staff, fostering a teamwork-oriented atmosphere across all employees.
The Oakville Grill & Cellar values employees who use tact and good judgment in handling guest, vendor, and employee interactions, emphasizing patience and courtesy. The position requires flexibility in scheduling, potentially including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and travel to multiple locations. Physical ability to move and lift weights up to 50 pounds as part of daily duties is also necessary. The company offers competitive salary compensation ranging from $55,000 to $75,000 per year, along with a comprehensive benefits package. This presents an excellent opportunity for culinary professionals seeking career growth within a supportive and innovative restaurant group dedicated to delivering an exceptional guest experience.
