Job Description
BayCare Health System is recognized as one of the largest employers in the Tampa Bay area, proudly serving the community with an extensive network comprised of 16 community-based hospitals, a long-term acute care facility, home health services, outpatient centers, and thousands of dedicated physicians. With the support of more than 30,000 team members, BayCare is committed to a forward-thinking philosophy grounded in trust, dignity, respect, responsibility, and clinical excellence. This comprehensive healthcare organization continually strives to improve the health and well-being of the communities it serves through both compassionate care and innovative medical practices.
The Food and Nutrition Services department at BayCare plays an integral role in supporting the health system’s mission by ensuring patients receive well-prepared, nutritious meals that meet their specific dietary needs. We are currently seeking a dedicated Food Services Chef to join the team at BayCare’s Bartow Medical Center. This is a full-time, non-exempt position with an 8-hour shift that varies, including every other weekend work, and no remote work or on-call duties are required.
The Food Services Chef is responsible for preparing appetizing, seasoned, and nutritious food for regular diets, modified diets, and special functions according to standardized recipes. The chef coordinates team assignments, monitors inventory, uses and maintains kitchen equipment, and provides training and supervision to team members. In addition, this role includes performing the duties of the chef in their absence, handling production and tracking sheets, scheduling, and maintaining quality control by monitoring food production and taking corrective actions when necessary.
This position also supports team member functions such as interviewing, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, coaching, and scheduling. The chef coordinates team member orientation, training, and competency assessments, ensuring that all team members are properly prepared to deliver high-quality food services. Additionally, the chef monitors the overall security of the department to ensure a safe and compliant kitchen environment.
Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience in food services. A ServSafe Manager food safety certification is required within one year of hire to ensure compliance with food safety standards and regulations. This role requires a professional who is detail-oriented, proactive in team leadership, and committed to delivering excellence in patient nutrition and food service quality. Joining BayCare means becoming part of a respected healthcare organization that values its team members and fosters growth, teamwork, and community impact. If you are passionate about culinary arts and patient care, and you have the skills to lead a dynamic food services team, this position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a difference.
