The Culinary Team at Whitney Center plays a vital role in the community's mission by offering high-quality meals that not only nourish the body but also bring residents, guests, and staff together. As a part of this team, the Sous Chef supports the Chef Manager in overseeing the comprehensive culinary program across multiple dining venues. Moreover, the Sous Chef is responsible for mentoring and supporting culinary staff, fostering a collaborative team environment, and helping with training in cooking techniques, food safety, and service standards.

Menu development is a significant aspect of this role, involving collaboration with the Chef Manager to plan seasonal menus, test and refine new recipes, and maintain high presentation and plating standards. Additionally, the Sous Chef will support the planning and execution of catered events and on-campus functions, ensuring catering production meets quality, timing, and presentation goals.

In terms of cost control, the Sous Chef helps monitor food costs and kitchen expenditures, assists with inventory management and ordering, and maintains proper storage and product rotation according to FIFO standards. Ensuring culinary excellence in taste, presentation, and consistency is paramount, as is fostering a hospitality-focused dining experience that prioritizes resident satisfaction. Constructive response to feedback and proactive engagement with residents helps maintain the center’s strong reputation for outstanding service.
