This full-time Sous Chef opportunity is based at the Valero location in San Antonio, TX and offers a competitive fixed pay rate of $23.00 per hour. The role operates on a Monday through Friday schedule from 6:00 am to 4:00 pm, providing a stable workweek that respects personal time. As a Sous Chef, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Executive Chef by preparing and cooking foods, managing kitchen activities, and supervising foodservice associates to ensure seamless operations. This position not only demands culinary expertise with at least five years of cooking experience but also requires leadership skills to coordinate kitchen staff, maintain high standards for food safety and sanitation, and uphold impeccable presentation and quality standards. The Sous Chef will step in for the Executive Chef during their absence, carrying significant responsibility for kitchen management.

Your key responsibilities will include cooking food according to approved recipes and production standards, ensuring timely completion of production orders, and supervising hourly food service staff through activities such as scheduling, training, and performance management. Additionally, maintaining proper food storage, handling, portion control, and sanitation will be fundamental to the role. The ability to interact with customers professionally and address complaints effectively is also crucial, thereby enhancing customer satisfaction and maintaining the venue’s reputation. Monitoring inventory levels, managing product deliveries, and minimizing waste are also essential tasks that contribute to efficient kitchen operations. Job Duties

  • Cooks and prepares food following approved recipes and production standards
  • Ensures all deadlines are met based on production orders
  • Supervises hourly food service associates including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, participating in reviews and recommending disciplinary action
  • Stores food in designated areas following all corporate, state and federal food safety and sanitation procedures
  • Ensures proper food handling, presentation, portion control and maintenance of appropriate serving temperatures
  • Maintains sanitation of equipment, supplies and utensils
  • Cleans workstation thoroughly before leaving area
  • Keeps display equipment clean and free of debris during meal service
  • Interacts with customers to resolve complaints in a friendly, service-oriented manner
  • Demonstrates complete understanding of daily menu items and accurately explains them to associates and customers
  • Keeps up with peak production and service hours
  • Monitors inventory and deliveries of product and supplies
  • Tracks product production, consumption and waste
  • Informs supervisor when supplies or product are low
  • Performs other duties as assigned
