The role of Cook at WellQuest Living is essential in delivering excellent food service to residents and guests. Reporting directly to the Director of Food Service or Executive Chef, the Cook is responsible for preparing a variety of food items following established recipes, including meats, seafood, poultry, and other diverse menu items. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining the quality, consistency, and presentation of all dishes served while adhering strictly to safety, sanitation, and operational standards.

A successful candidate will understand the importance of stock management, ensuring that line stations are fully prepared and maintained to facilitate smooth meal service. They will also be involved in planning and coordinating the procurement of food and supplies necessary for executing daily menu plans. The position is dynamic in nature, requiring flexibility during breakfast hours, including dishwashing responsibilities when time allows.

Maintaining strict safety protocols when handling kitchen equipment, complying with sanitation standards, and following employee handbook guidelines regarding dress code, conduct, attendance, and professionalism are vital aspects of this role. The Cook is encouraged to actively participate in monthly dietary meetings and complete at least eight hours of annual in-service training to stay updated on food service best practices and nutrition.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Preferably completed college courses in food service or management
  • Preferred completion of ADA approved food service training
  • Prior supervisory or head cook experience preferred
  • Ability to perform moderately complex mathematical calculations
  • Skills in estimating food quantities
  • Ability to follow recipe and menu guidelines
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Capacity to make independent work decisions
  • Ability to maintain professionalism
  • Willingness to attend scheduled training and meetings
  • Adherence to safety and sanitation protocols

Job Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent
  • College courses in food service or management preferred
  • Completion of ADA approved course in quantity food purchasing, production, service and nutrition preferred
  • Experience as a supervisor or head cook preferred
  • Ability to follow standardized recipes and menus
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to make independent decisions

Job Duties

  • Prepare all food items per recipes
  • Prepare a variety of meats, seafood, poultry and other food items
