The role of Cook within this setting is crucial and multifaceted. The successful candidate will maintain the highest sanitary standards in the kitchen, supporting the Kitchen Chef/Manager in food preparation, delivery, and kitchen upkeep. This position requires an individual who not only meets the certification and experience prerequisites, such as the SERV Safe certification and at least one year of cooking experience, but who also embraces a hands-on approach to ensuring the kitchen operates efficiently and safely. Responsibilities extend beyond food preparation to include maintaining cleanliness of kitchen appliances, utensils, and classrooms where food is consumed. The Cook will occasionally prepare meals independently in the absence of the Kitchen Chef/Manager, requiring flexibility and confidence in culinary skills. Adherence to CACFP guidelines is a vital part of this role, ensuring meal patterns meet nutritional and regulatory requirements that support child health. This job entails physical demands such as lifting up to 50 pounds regularly and requires a valid California driver’s license with access to an insured automobile for the transportation of food to and from classrooms. The Cook must demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, respect for cultural diversity, and a commitment to safety and health protocols, making this a rewarding role for someone eager to contribute to a child-centered community through their culinary and organizational skills.
