Job Description
Acts Retirement-Life Communities is a prominent not-for-profit organization specializing in the ownership, operation, and development of resort-style continuing care senior living communities. With a portfolio of 28 communities across 9 states and a workforce of over 8,500 dedicated team members, Acts offers an enriching lifestyle that caters to seniors' diverse needs. Their communities provide a range of living options including independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing, ensuring comprehensive care and comfort for residents. The environments are designed to deliver on-campus conveniences and a variety of services such as casual and fine dining options, beauty salons, fitness centers, security, healthcare services, and extensive activity programs. Rooted in a culture of Loving-Kindness, Acts values diversity, inclusion, and the unique talents of every team member, fostering a respectful and supportive workplace.
The role of Sous Chef at Acts Retirement-Life Communities offers a fulfilling opportunity for culinary professionals seeking a dynamic kitchen leadership position without the late hours typically associated with chef roles. This position entails overseeing food preparation and cooking across all production environments, ensuring quality and consistency in the meals served to residents. The Sous Chef directly supervises the kitchen and sanitation staff, overseeing daily operations and supporting the execution of food production. In this leadership role, the Sous Chef assists with hiring and training new kitchen team members, maintaining a skilled and motivated staff.
On a typical day, the Sous Chef manages kitchen opening and closing procedures and performs other side duties as directed by the Executive Chef. They play a critical role in inventory management, development of par sheets, and placing orders for food and supplies, thereby contributing to the efficient and cost-effective operation of the kitchen. This role also steps in to lead the kitchen during the Executive Chef's absence, requiring strong leadership and decision-making skills.
The position provides an attractive salary range from $58,350 to $74,463 per year, with the starting rate depending on skills and experience. Acts supports its team members beyond the workplace; offering next day pay through the PayActiv program, tuition reimbursement, commuter benefits, scholarship awards, professional development programs, university partnerships, referral and discount programs, appreciation events, wellness initiatives, and more. The generous benefit package includes health coverage (medical, prescription, dental, and vision), flexible spending accounts, life insurance, disability programs, a 401(k) plan with a 4% company match after one year of employment, paid time off, and holidays. Eligibility for benefits may vary based on employment status.
Acts Retirement-Life Communities is dedicated to inclusive hiring practices, providing equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, religion, age, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, marital status, national origin, disability status, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic. The company is committed to accommodating candidates with disabilities throughout the hiring process. Applicants should note that compliance with Florida's Care Provider Background Screening is required for this position.
This opportunity is ideal for chefs who are passionate about creating high-quality culinary experiences in a senior living community setting, value teamwork and leadership, and are looking for a supportive employer that values professional growth and work-life balance.
