The Food Service Coordinator role at Dial operates under the guidance of the Executive Chef or Dining Services Director to ensure a well-managed, nutritious, and diverse dining experience that meets the dietary needs of residents while adhering to budget constraints. This full-time position involves a blend of culinary expertise, menu planning, team leadership, and operational management to provide high-quality food service tailored to seniors. The individual in this role will play a pivotal part in maintaining food safety standards, managing kitchen operations, minimizing waste, and enhancing resident satisfaction through attractive presentation and thoughtful meal options. Additionally, this position offers varied working hours, including day, evening, and weekend shifts, catering to the dynamic schedule of a senior living community. With an emphasis on teamwork and community involvement, the Food Service Coordinator will engage with residents to encourage participation in the food program, oversee training and supervision of food service staff, and implement corporate policies to maintain efficient and effective food service operations. The role requires a keen understanding of nutrition, food handling regulations, and operational logistics within a commercial kitchen environment, ensuring that the dining program supports the overall wellbeing and enjoyment of residents. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience in volume food production within a commercial kitchen
  • Knowledge of state food-handling and kitchen regulations
  • Ability to operate kitchen appliances and office equipment
  • Strong understanding of sanitation and food safety regulations
  • Ability to promote teamwork among staff
  • Effective communication skills
  • Willingness to work day, evening and weekend shifts
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Physical ability to perform kitchen duties

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience in volume food production within a commercial kitchen
  • Promote teamwork in providing services to residents
  • Knowledge of state food-handling and kitchen regulations
  • Operation of kitchen appliances including dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, coffee maker, ice machine, blender, food processor, meat slicer, mixer and office equipment like fax, photocopier, and telephone
  • Knowledge and conformity to state and local food code and health code regulations with an overall keen sense of sanitation and food safety
  • Experience in supervision is preferred
  • Certificate or degree in food service is preferred
  • Willingness to learn and help others
  • Enjoyment in working with older adults

Job Duties

  • Prepare food daily as outlined on the weekly menu plan provided by dietician
  • Assist with menu planning
  • review and adjust menus with supervisor to accommodate foods in season, vendor sale prices, special events and holidays
  • Alter or adapt recipes to accommodate special dietary needs of residents or to improve recipes
  • Identify adaptive equipment or altered food preparation procedures to assist residents in maintaining an independent eating function
  • Adjust menus to utilize foods in the refrigerator and freezer to prevent waste and spoilage
  • Monitor portion control to meet residents’ requests and meet basic nutritional requirements
  • Ensure attractive presentation of food on the plate before serving
  • Maintain portion control to meet budgetary requirements
  • Assist with planning menus and preparation of foods for special events
  • Ensure proper handling, labeling, and storage of all delivered foods and ingredients for infection control
  • Establish and oversee cleaning schedule for all dishware, pots and pans, equipment, appliances, floors drains, storage area, refrigerator, freezer, and sinks
  • Maintain a written inventory of dry goods, refrigerated and frozen foods, non-food supplies, dishes and utensils
  • Notify Maintenance Director of malfunction of equipment or appliances
  • Work with team to ensure efficient operation of the community
  • Operate food service department within guidelines of community budget
  • Maintain high level of resident satisfaction in food service department
  • Encourage and invite residents to participate in the food service program
  • Coordinate and assign work to team members involved in the food service program
  • Interview and recommend staff to Executive Chef/Dining Director
  • Train, supervise, and assign work to new food service employees
  • Implement and ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures in the food service department
  • Participate in marketing the community by providing high quality customer service and preparing marketing meals, as needed
  • Report any on-the-job injuries to the supervisor before the end of the work shift on the day the injury occurs
  • Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, community operations and personnel
  • Other duties as assigned
