Job Description

The association is currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated professional to join its team in a full-time capacity as a Culinary Assistant to the Chef.

This pivotal role is designed to support the culinary team by assisting the Chef in managing all aspects of food preparation and kitchen operations. The position requires a candidate with extensive culinary experience, a supervisory background, and the ability to execute daily food service efficiently and to a high standard. The Culinary Assistant will actively participate in preparing daily specials, managing inventory, and ensuring the quality and consistency of all dishes served. Responsibilities include retrieving and prepping ingredients, sautéing, broiling, deep-frying, and plating entrees according to precise recipes and standards established by the Chef.

In addition to direct food preparation tasks, this role includes overseeing kitchen staff during assigned shifts and stepping in to provide direction and assistance when the Chef is absent. The candidate will coordinate with front-of-house staff and management to ensure smooth communication regarding order ticket times, promptly resolve any food-related issues, and maintain an organized kitchen environment. The position also requires the ability to cost out menus and specials, manage inventory control measures, and ensure the proper storage of perishable products to maintain food safety and quality.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about culinary arts who thrives in a team-oriented environment and possesses a strong attention to detail and organizational skills. The successful candidate will bring a minimum of five years of culinary experience, including some supervisory experience, and general computer knowledge necessary for inventory and menu cost management. Job Duties

  • Assist the Chef in overseeing food preparation in food beverage outlets
  • make recommendations concerning purchasing decisions inventory control measures
  • assist in assurance of overall quality and consistency of products
  • properly store products to maintain temperatures on perishable items
  • retrieve items needed for daily specials and menu items from dry storage or refrigerator or freezer
  • prep food prior to service such as salads and soups
  • sauté, run broiler or deep fryer and plate entrees per Chef instructions or recipes
  • receive food orders and organize coolers and freezers
  • supervise kitchen staff during assigned shift
  • provide direction to kitchen staff in absence of Chef
  • communicate with front-of-house staff and managers on ticket times
  • resolve food issues
