Job Description

City Winery is a dynamic and innovative hospitality venue that blends the art of winemaking with live entertainment and gourmet dining. Since its inception in 2008, City Winery has become synonymous with delivering a unique cultural experience that integrates wine, music, and culinary arts into a seamless offering. Founded by music industry visionary Michael Dorf, the company has grown into a nationally recognized brand known for its commitment to quality and community. City Winery operates a fully functional urban winery alongside intimate concert settings, food and wine classes, private events, and fine dining experiences. This multifaceted approach caters to a sophisticated clientele comprised of food lovers, cultural enthusiasts, and wine connoisseurs looking for an exceptional urban wine country experience.

As a Sommelier at City Winery, you play a critical role in elevating the guest experience through your deep knowledge of wines, beverages, and pairings. This position is designed for individuals with a passion for wine and hospitality, emphasizing the importance of creating memorable guest interactions while supporting the company’s beverage program. The Sommelier is expected to contribute not only by recommending wine and food pairings but also by educating guests about beverage selections and assisting with inventory and operational tasks within the beverage department.

This full-time role requires at least two years of sommelier experience in a fast-paced restaurant environment, with a thorough understanding of both Old and New World wine regions, producer familiarity, and vintage knowledge. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with the service team are essential. The Sommelier must be detail-oriented, organized, and capable of handling multiple tasks while maintaining a polished and professional presentation at all times. A genuine love for wine, beer, and spirits, coupled with the desire to share this passion with guests, is fundamental to success in this role.

The ideal candidate will have a customer-focused mindset, striving to exceed guest expectations and enhance their overall visit to City Winery. Flexibility in scheduling is important, as the role involves working evenings, weekends, and holidays. Physical demands include standing and walking throughout shifts and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Commitment to City Winery’s inclusive and diverse work culture is expected, aligning with company values that celebrate diversity and equal opportunity.

Overall, this sommelier position offers a rare opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking hospitality team that values creativity, quality, and community. You will be pivotal in advancing the wine program while providing guests with an elevated culinary and cultural experience that is truly unique in the city venue landscape. Your expertise and enthusiasm will help uphold City Winery’s reputation as a premier destination where wine, food, and live entertainment converge to delight and inspire.
