Job Description
Encore Boston Harbor is a luxury global destination gaming resort that sets a new standard for hospitality and entertainment in the Boston area. Featuring 671 exquisitely appointed hotel rooms offering sweeping views of the iconic Boston skyline and the picturesque Boston Harbor, Encore Boston Harbor stands as a premier location for travelers seeking sophistication and world-class amenities. Beyond its luxurious accommodations, the resort boasts an ultra-premium spa providing rejuvenating experiences, upscale retail shops that offer distinguished brands, and a diverse culinary scene featuring high-end dining options crafted by celebrated chefs. The property also includes state-of-the-art ballroom and meeting spaces ideal for hosting a broad range of events, from intimate gatherings to grand celebrations. At a staggering investment of $2.6 billion, Encore Boston Harbor represents the largest private single-phase development in the history of the Commonwealth, underscoring its significance as a key player in the region's hospitality and entertainment landscape.
The resort enjoys a prime waterfront location along the Mystic River, seamlessly connected to Boston Harbor. It features a six-acre park space that includes a scenic harbor walk, a versatile events lawn, and public viewing areas, all adorned with ornate floral displays. These outdoor spaces enhance the guest experience by providing serene, picturesque environments that complement the resort's vibrant indoor atmosphere.
In this impressive setting, Encore Boston Harbor is currently seeking passionate and driven Wine Professionals to join its dynamic team. The Sommelier role is essential in elevating the guest experience through comprehensive wine service. Candidates must bring a minimum of two years of Sommelier experience within a full service wine program, with prior experience as a Food Server preferred. The Sommelier will be a key contributor to the service team, offering their expertise in wine and complementing the guest's culinary journey. This role involves not only recommending and serving wines but also supporting guest satisfaction by integrating seamlessly with the broader service team.
The Sommelier's responsibilities extend beyond just wine service; they include assisting with inventory control and maintaining adherence to departmental standard operating procedures (SOPs). The incumbent must develop an in-depth knowledge of the outlet’s wine list and the ability to confidently discuss changes or updates to the selection. The role emphasizes guest-centric service, ensuring all actions are aligned with enhancing the overall experience rather than focusing solely on revenue.
Additional duties include polishing glassware, preparing service mise en place, and being ready to assist in VIP service situations across different areas of the resort, including the Casino and Hotel Tower. The Sommelier also plays an active role in upholding the resort's high standards of safety and compliance, including obtaining and maintaining necessary licenses and registrations related to gaming and alcohol service.
Candidates for this role should possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, a keen attention to detail, and advanced knowledge of wines, including vintages, regions, and food pairings. Language proficiency in English is required, with additional languages considered a plus. Physical demands include the ability to lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds and endure periods of standing and walking in potentially noisy environments. Flexibility in work scheduling is also necessary to meet the ever-changing needs of the hospitality and entertainment industry.
By joining Encore Boston Harbor as a Sommelier, candidates will become part of a luxury resort that not only values excellence and innovation but also provides an environment where professional growth and guest satisfaction go hand in hand. The opportunity to contribute to such a prestigious establishment offers a rewarding career path for dedicated and skilled wine professionals.
