Job Requirements

  • 21 years of age or above
  • will be required to obtain and maintain registration or a license issued by the massachusetts gaming commission
  • must be able to obtain and maintain any licensing or active work cards required, including but not limited to an alcohol awareness card
  • high school degree or equivalent required
  • minimum level i sommelier certification from the court of master sommeliers or equivalent
  • minimum 2 years of sommelier experience preferred
  • basic computer skills and knowledge of microsoft office a plus
  • outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills as well as excellent attention to detail
  • ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as policy and procedure manuals, maintenance instructions, and other related documents
  • ability to respond to common inquiries from other employees or guests
  • conversational english required, second language a plus
  • ability to write instructions
  • ability to present information
  • ability to compute basic mathematical calculations
  • ability to decipher various reports and maintains reports upon request
  • ability to lift or maneuver at least fifty pounds
  • ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • ability to work varying schedules to reflect business needs of the property
  • must be able to interact in a professional manner
  • willingness to work in a noisy environment

Job Qualifications

  • minimum level i sommelier certification from the court of master sommeliers or equivalent
  • high school degree or equivalent required
  • culinary arts, hospitality or a related education or experience preferred
  • minimum 2 years of sommelier experience preferred
  • basic computer skills and knowledge of microsoft office a plus
  • outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills as well as excellent attention to detail
  • advanced service knowledge and wine knowledge including vintages, regions, and food pairings preferred
  • ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as policy and procedure manuals, maintenance instructions, and other related documents

  • ability to write instructions
  • ability to present information
  • ability to compute basic mathematical calculations

Job Duties

  • ensures all encore boston harbor core values and property and department standards are implemented and applied
  • participates in short-and long-term departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures
  • monitors and evaluates operational effectiveness
  • effects changes required for improvement
  • identifies key drivers of success
  • actively contributes to departmental performance, and the accuracy, confidentiality, and thoroughness of departmental policies and procedures
  • records and reports
  • follows that all applicable internal policies, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and property-wide controls are enforced within the department
  • delivers and maintains a maximum level of property-wide service and satisfaction
  • contributes to company-wide communication and best practices
  • keeps informed of all new developments within the department
  • manages multiple priorities simultaneously and meets deadlines, often in stressful and high-pressure situations
  • stays fully informed of all changes on the wine list and in the instance of additions or subtractions is able to speak with confidence about these modifications
  • maintains wine storage areas and keeps accurate inventory
  • develops and maintains extensive knowledge of outlet wine list
  • pairs and suggests wines that will best complement food menu items while working within taste preference and budget parameters of the guest
  • polishes all glassware and associated mise en place used for wine service such as coasters
  • folds linens that may be needed for wine service
  • becomes familiar with all procedural sops, especially with regards to rfb/comp guests
  • when necessary, assists with vip service that may be required in areas within the casino or hotel tower
  • works with safety as a priority, and follows department and company safety standards
  • maintains relevant knowledge of industry through continuing education and training
  • performs any other job-related duties as assigned
