The Sommelier role at ATLAS is integral to maintaining the restaurant's world-class wine program. This position requires a true wine expert who can curate and update the wine list in close collaboration with chefs and the Food and Beverage Manager. The Sommelier will recommend food and wine pairings tailored to enhance the dining experience and advise guests on a comprehensive selection of wines based on their personal tastes and meal choices. Maintaining the highest standards, the Sommelier ensures wines are served at optimal temperatures and presented in appropriate glassware to elevate each serving. Managing the wine cellar to ensure full stock and quality preservation, training wait staff on wine knowledge, and negotiating purchase prices with vendors are vital responsibilities. Job Requirements
- Education: high school
- able to communicate (speak, read, and write) in English
- Experience: prior experience as a sommelier, wine steward/stewardess or similar role
- Computer skills: experience using a point of sale (POS) system
- Certificates and licenses: sommelier certification preferred
- Other requirements: must meet local, legal minimum age requirement to serve alcoholic beverages
- coordination skills that allow proper pouring and carrying of several drinks and plates at the same time
- Extensive knowledge of different wines and the winemaking process
