Job Description
City Winery is a unique and innovative hospitality and entertainment company that brings together the worlds of wine, food, and live music to create a truly exceptional experience. Established in 2008 by music industry veteran Michael Dorf, City Winery has rapidly become a renowned destination for those who appreciate the finer points of culinary arts, top-tier wines, and intimate live performances. By combining a fully operational winery, exquisite dining, thoughtfully curated wine and food classes, and vibrant concert spaces, City Winery uniquely positions itself as a leader in bringing the essence of wine country to urban environments. This dynamic approach appeals to a sophisticated and culturally engaged clientele who seek a blend of sensory delights and social experiences under one roof.
At City Winery, the philosophy of hospitality is more than a principle—it is a lifestyle passionately embraced by all team members. The company is devoted to crafting memorable visits through a combination of sustainable wine production rated above 90 points, tantalizing culinary offerings, and widely celebrated live entertainment. The venue's ambiance is carefully designed to foster community and creativity, making it a vibrant hub where guests can indulge in exceptional wines, learn through tastings and classes, and enjoy the dynamic energy of live music performances.
We are currently seeking an experienced Sommelier to join our dedicated team. This role presents an hourly plus commission opportunity, allowing for both a stable income and the potential to significantly increase earnings based on performance. The ideal candidate will serve as the in-house wine and beverage expert, primarily responsible for elevating beverage sales and ensuring an outstanding guest experience. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of wines from both Old and New World regions, including familiarities with producers and vintage nuances, although specific certifications are not mandatory.
As a Sommelier at City Winery, you will be instrumental in delivering exceptional guest service by recommending wine and food pairings skillfully, educating guests about beverage options, and supporting beverage department functions including inventory management. Your passion for wine, commitment to continuous learning, and effective communication will be essential to drive the wine program forward. Additionally, maintaining a well-organized wine cellar and assisting with beverage list updates will be crucial responsibilities.
This role demands an individual who is warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely appreciative of guests, ensuring each visitor feels welcomed and valued. Professionalism and composure are key, as well as the capacity to adapt service flow to meet individual guest needs. You will coordinate with your team to uphold standards of service, respond efficiently to orders, and maintain an inviting and clean station. Your ability to troubleshoot and escalate any service issues promptly will contribute to the flawless operation of the dining experience.
City Winery offers not only a job but a chance to be part of an innovative hospitality concept that values creativity, diversity, and excellence. We are an equal opportunity employer committed to providing a supportive environment where all employees can thrive. Join us and help reimagine the future of live music and hospitality through your expertise and passion for wine.
