Job Description
City Winery is a unique and innovative hospitality and live music company that combines the art of winemaking with intimate concert experiences, culinary excellence, and cultural events. Established in 2008 by music industry visionary Michael Dorf, City Winery has redefined the way patrons experience entertainment and dining in urban settings. With locations across the United States, City Winery offers an unmatched blend of award-winning wines, delectable food, and world-class live music performances. This dynamic venue is not merely a place to eat or listen to music but a thriving cultural hub where wine lovers, foodies, and music enthusiasts come together to enjoy a sophisticated and immersive experience.
At City Winery, the emphasis is placed on delivering high-end combined culinary and cultural experiences. The company operates fully functioning wineries embedded within urban entertainment settings, allowing guests to enjoy the charm and quality of wine country right in the heart of the city. The venue hosts a varied lineup of events, including intimate concerts, food and wine classes, private gatherings, and fine dining arrangements. City Winery has cultivated a clientele of discerning cultural patrons and sophisticated food lovers, creating an environment that celebrates artistic expression, culinary creativity, and viniculture.
The Sommelier role at City Winery offers an exciting hourly plus commission opportunity for individuals passionate about wine, hospitality, and guest engagement. The Sommelier serves as an in-house expert on wines and beverages, playing a pivotal role in enhancing the overall guest experience through professional service, educational insights, and thoughtful recommendations. This position involves not only promoting and upselling beverage selections and retail wines but also supporting operational functions like inventory management and staff training. Sommeliers interact directly with guests to provide personalized wine and food pairing suggestions and contribute to maintaining the brand's reputation for excellence.
Successful candidates will have a strong foundational knowledge of global wine regions, producers, vintages, and flavor profiles across both Old and New World wines. While formal certifications are not mandatory, a deep understanding and genuine passion for wine are essential. Beyond expertise, the ideal Sommelier must possess excellent communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to create memorable experiences for City Winery guests. This role requires adaptability, teamwork, and a commitment to elevating City Winery's wine program through continuous learning and sharing of knowledge.
Joining City Winery means becoming part of a vibrant community that values creativity, diversity, and hospitality as a way of life. The company is an equal opportunity employer that fosters inclusivity and respect among its staff and guests. With a commitment to innovation and excellence, City Winery provides an inspiring workplace environment for those who thrive in fast-paced, customer-focused settings. This position offers the chance to grow professionally while contributing to a unique brand recognized for quality in wine, food, and live entertainment.
