This position plays a crucial part in enhancing guest enjoyment by offering expert wine service and personalized recommendations tailored to individual preferences and dining experiences. The Sommelier works collaboratively with chefs, restaurant managers, and beverage leadership to create thoughtfully curated wine lists that complement menu offerings and seasonal changes. A significant aspect of the role involves maintaining inventory control and vendor relationships to ensure the highest quality selection while managing costs effectively. Additionally, the Sommelier is responsible for training front-of-house staff on wine service techniques, varietals, regional characteristics, and food pairings, which enhances overall service quality and guest satisfaction. The role requires someone with formal wine certification, strong communication skills, and a passion for delivering luxury service. This full-time role is dynamic, requiring a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays, underlining the commitment to provide exceptional hospitality consistently. Job Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both written and verbal
  • two years of experience in gourmet, fine dining, or high-volume restaurants
  • formal wine certification such as Court of Master Certified Sommelier or higher
  • minimum 21 years of age
  • possess or obtain Responsible Beverage Service State Certification
  • possess or obtain California Food Handler Certification
  • ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and all shifts

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate effectively with guests, team members, and management in English
  • formal wine certification such as Court of Master Certified Sommelier or higher
  • experience in gourmet, fine dining, or high-volume restaurant settings
  • knowledge of wine service techniques and food pairings
  • strong interpersonal and negotiation skills for vendor relations
  • capability to train and develop front-of-house staff
  • understanding of inventory management and cost control
  • proficiency in managing wine-related events and promotions

Job Duties

  • Redefine hospitality reflecting Graton Resort & Casino values
  • perform responsibilities according to Graton Resort & Casino standards, policies, and procedures
  • curate and update wine lists aligned with restaurant concepts, seasonal changes, and guest preferences
  • provide personalized wine recommendations to guests based on preferences, menu selections, and occasion
  • maintain accurate wine inventory and ensure proper storage and rotation
  • work with vendors and distributors to source selections, manage deliveries, and negotiate pricing
  • promote wine sales through suggestive selling, wine flights, and pairing recommendations
  • assist in planning and executing wine dinners, tastings, and promotional events
  • train front-of-house staff on wine service, varietals, regions, and food pairings
  • maintain organized and clean work and service areas
  • anticipate guest needs and address concerns promptly
  • communicate effectively with kitchen staff for smooth service and accurate orders
  • process payments and handle cash or credit transactions
  • adhere to health, safety, and sanitation standards
  • assist with setup and breakdown of dining areas
  • perform additional duties as assigned by management
